There is no standard answer to this question, but more recently the thought has been to try stimulating yourself as soon as you feel ready, once the catheter is out. The newest thinking is that getting blood flowing back into the 2 chambers (one on each side) of the penis will help to regain sexual function faster. You can always ask your Urologist and/or surgeon about it, but my advice is, if you feel up to it, go ahead try it out, maybe a little cautiously at first, I highly doubt you'd do much harm unless you get overly vigorous with yourself! I'm having robotically-assisted prostatectomy myself Jul 31, so I'm already trying to prepare myself for lack of erections, at least for a period of time, hoping that with nerve-sparing surgery I can regain most of my function at some point...
