by glendon48, Apr 25, 2009 08:13AM
my father was on a catheter for 18 months and came off it 2 weeks ago. since then he needs to void every hour during the night but is normal during the day when he is sitting up. He is getting weaker from lack of sleep. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Nocturia can happen due to diabetes, urinary incontinence, BPH, sleep apnea, renal failure etc. But as the frequency is not increased during day time and also as your father has been off catheter only since two weeks,

I don’t think it is serious. You can wait for some more time for this to settle down and if it does not then consult a urologist and discuss the above mentioned possibilities.
Best.
