pain and mild burning in the genitials

by aztec, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
I am 38yrs old , in november of last year I got flue symptoms . I had fever and chills I thought it was a cold, but then at night I started getting severe burning after urinating and I felt like was not emptying my bladder. I went to my phisician and took a urine analyze they found some bacteria . I took cipro
for ten days and it went away for four weeks ,but then it came back even stronger. my doctor checked my prostate and blood work, they did psa test, kidny`s ,liver, and cultural urine analyze. everthing came back negative. I`m thinking for not being on antibotic (antibiotic) for long period time it did get the entire infection. I started taking another antibotic (antibiotic) its called doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 21 days so far I`ve taking it for 15 days. I`m not feeling the pain and the burning that severe, but theres time the pain goes away but comes back. theres times when I don`t feel no pain at allthroughout the day, but then there`s days the pain through out the day, not that severe. I suffer from aniexty and depression I tend to dwell on my infection , when my aniexty rises I noticed that my pain gets intense, but after I relax the pain decreases. I`m still feeling some mild burning and pain discomfort, should I wait to see what happens after taking the entire medication or have my phiscian remmond me to urologist. I have another question can stress prevent you from getting better and by me urinatung altot because I drink alot water can that irratate my uerthrea.

I would consider a referral to a urologist.

The prostate can be further evaluated with an ultrasound or an MRI - to exclude the possibility of an abscess.  If an abscess is present, antibiotics would not be helpful.

If infection has been completely ruled out, then you may want to consider anatomical abnormalities.  This can include a urethral stricture or urethral polyp.  A cystoscopy would be a comprehensive test to evaluate for these possibilities.

These options can be discussed with your urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
