Sometimes prostatitis can last several weeks and may require extended courses of antibiotics. A prostatic massage should be done and any fluid expressed sent for culture and analysis.
Levacin (or Levaquin in the USA) is an appropriate antibiotic for prostatitis. Sometimes several weeks of therapy may be need.
If the symptoms continue, a cystoscopy can be considered to evaluate for anatomical causes such as a urethral stricture or urethral polyp.
