pain in left side of penis

I am 38 male. Just saw Urologist. No blood in urine and limited if any infection in prostatic fluid. I have had chronic prostate issues on and off for years - but - the symptom right now most bothersome is this flaring, come-and-go pain in the left side of the upper half of the penis - occasionally nearing the tip. It feels "nervy" in nature and its like I can feel it coming. I experience what I can best call "rectal spasms" where there is a warm sensation and sensation of spasm in the anus. This penile pain seems worst upon waking, after voiding, but, has occured at differing levels of intensity at any part of the day. It also will take a day off. I am guessing it is referred pain from the prostate or anal spasms I am having but would love any other suggestion - moreso a remedy. My current condition includes frequency urinating; hesitancy, and most aggravating is this pain just described. So - many of the basic prostadynia symptoms with this extra dose of referred or non referred pain. Could the pain be in the penis itself? Lastly, it seems absent when the rectum is full (IE - some balance of power occuring between urethra and full bladder that blocks the nerve pain). Any thoughts or help welcomed. Currently taking Levaquin and ALEVE for the pain, although it is not doing the trick.

I think I'm starting to experience this, my symptoms are just as the man above described, though not as intense. I'm a 39 year old male in good health, good shape, and not overweight. I've never had problems with this before. But yesterday, after going to the gym and doing a couple of sets of squats in the morning, then a couple of alcoholic drinks later in the afternoon,  I started to feel this "nervy" pain on the left side of my penis right out of the blue during the night. When it started I was surprised by how much it hurt. I massaged it and the pain seemed to go away for a while, but now its the next day and it still comes and goes, though not as bad as the day before. I noticed that a hot shower did make it feel better and avoiding certain seated positions helped. I thought maybe that I pulled a nerve or muscle, but I'm not sure anymore. And I did feel a sharp sensation once going from the tip of my penis all the way to my anus today, which was weird. I'm thinking of maybe going to a urologist or general practitioner if the pain doesn't go away. I'm also hoping it will get better by laying off the intense exercise for a while. Right now, its only an intermittent but bearable pain comes and goes in the upper left half of my penis. Is this an infection, or what do you think? What should I do? Please reply.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Prostate pain takes several weeks to clear up even with effective antibiotic therapy. This is due to the fact that antibiotics do not penetrate the prostate gland very easily. Symptoms of bacterial prostatitis may start diminishing after 7-10 days of antibiotic treatment, but may take longer sometimes.

Some measures you can undertake to relieve prostatic pain include avoiding prostate irritant such as caffeine, alcohol, citrus fruits and juices, and spicy foods, increasing fluid intake to about 2000 ml per day, adding sufficient quantity of calcium sources in diet, avoiding strenuous exercises, avoiding sitting on inadequately padded surfaces or for prolonged durations of time, and try sitting in a hot bath for10-15 min once or twice daily as this relieves the prostatic pain.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
