painful urination / ejaculation

For the last few years I have had a general aching in my testicales, which I put down to a vascetomy around the same time.  I have, for as long as I can remember, had a problem with frequent and urgent urination and occasionally blood in the urine.  About two years ago I underwent hospital tests and although nothing substantial was found, one test showed that after voiding my bladding (as much as I could) I had a further
1.5 pints of urine removed through a catheter.
However, recently I have had pain passing urine and ejaculating and a urine test showed blood, acid and protein, but no infection.
I don't know if it is of any relevance, but my son was born with a under-developed bladder and underwent three operations soon after birth.  At first they thought it was reflux but after two re-implantation operations it was discovered the reflux was due to his bladder's inability to retain urine.  They explained in lay-man's language that instead of his bladder behaving like a balloon, it was more like an orange, thick skinned and inflexible. Thankfully his bladder has developed since his third opreation and has had no urine infections since he was 3 (he's now 7).  I am also worried as my father died of Prostate Cancer two years ago and I'm afraid in case I will be more problem to this disease.
My doctor has told me not to worry as  its probably Prostatitis, and is taking no further action.  However, I am still very uncomfortable and thought your forum might give me a few suggestions of what I should do or whether I should go further in relation to treatment.

Thanks Frank for your questions.
A single disease process will unlike explain all of your genitourinary complaints. The only diagnosis that
comes close is chronic nonbacterial prostatitis or prostadynia. Little is know about the causes and
treatment of this disease and I will refer you to the site search function in the Med Help forum. Search
these two words; (prostatitis, prostadynia). Remember, we can not make diagnoses over the internet
because we can not examine you. I can only give you possible diagnosis and will address your
symptoms individually.
Because of your family history of prostate cancer, the recommendations for men over forty should
undergo prostate screening which includes; an annual prostate digital rectal exam and a PSA (a blood
test which measures a chemical produced by the prostate, used in prostate cancer screening).
Bilateral testicular pain is usually benign because tumors are usually painless. Causes of chronic
testicular pain are few but here are two examples: 1. varicocele ( benign varicose veins of the scrotum
which are surgically repaired for infertility and rarely for pain. They are diagnosed by testicular exam.
Varicocele pain is usually controlled with Tylenol or aspirin-like products. 2.Chronic pain can also
result from previous injury, infection or surgery ( rare,  50), is most likely caused by benign prostatic hypertrophy.
Although, bladder cancer, kidney cancer , kidney or bladder stones, urinary tract infections or
unexplained causes are also very common in this age group. Blood in the urine is more of a concern for
bladder cancer, especially if you are a smoker. If you have more than 2 red blood cells per high power
field under the microscope in some labs, without evidence of infection, this warrants a
