penis discharge.

penis discharge.

Hi doc,

3 weeks ago i went to my GUM clinic to get tested for the usual suspects as i had been noticing quite alot of discharge from my penis lately, they gave me 2x100mg doxy for a week and it seemed to have gone away, i got my results a week later and all was negative so seemed to be going to plan...

my girlfriend went and got tested a week after me and she got the same tretment and also came back negative,  however about 1-3 days after we started sleeping with each other again ive started to notice that i was feeling the need to urinate alot more often, and then 7 days after we started sleeping together after the meds ive just started noticing a white discharge from my penis aswell..

The symptoms felt like they started on the sat morn after a heavy nights drinking and sex, assumed it was just a usual part of a hangover, but could the alcohol be helping to cause it somehow?

any idea what could be going on here? was the treatment not long enough, took about 5 days or so for the discharge to nearly stop? i have had about 7 treatments of doxy over the past 3 years due to the same symptoms ( well sometimes i got a discharge and once or twice it just burned when i went to the toilet)so could i be getting resistant to it? as this does seem to come back alot for me...

i am waiting to hear from the hospital about seeing a urologist to see about possible prostitis ( im only 23 btw so im not sure if im a bit young for that)

appologise if this take a bit of reading, just kind of blurting it out as it comes to mind.

any advice you can offer would be appreciated, what should i do in the meantiome though? should i see my GP see if i can get more antibiotics, try and get in at the GUM clinic again (1-5 week wait) or just hang on and see what they say at the hospital, is a urologist any good at checking on std's aswell?

I agree with the possibility of prostatitis.  Doxycycline would cover for chlamydia - you want to ensure that gonorrhea isn't present as well.  If so, this would require different antibiotics.

Prostatitis can be evaluated with a digital rectal exam, and sending off any prostatic fluid for culture or analysis.  If this continues to be suspected, a transrectal ultrasound can be considered to image the prostate for any evidence of abscess.

I would discuss these options with your personal physician, or consider a referral to a urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
