Hello,
Your symptoms are suggestive of urinary retention. The various causes of urinary retention are nerve disease or spinal cord injury like in diabetes, infections of the spinal cord, benign prostate hyperplasia(in males),urinary tract infection, certain medicines, bladder stone, cystocele or rectocele(in females) and urethral stricture.

A complete examination along with investigations like urine examination, bladder scan, cystoscopy,CT scan, urodynamic tests and prostate tests (in males) may be required to confirm the diagnosis.Pls consult a urologist for the same. Treatment is diagnosis specific.
I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.

You may be retaining.  It is important to go to a urologist. Retention can get serious
so should not be ignored/

They actually have a really neat little non invasive scan.  They have your urinate then use this machine that acts like a sonagram but faster and easier and it can read the amount of urine remaining in your bladder.  If you are retaining they may have to catheterize you to relieve the bladder pressure.  Though scary to think about it really is not that bad and they can teach you to selfcath at home when you can not empty your bladder.  I actually had my bladder shut down about 2 years ago.

It was really scary however being able to self cath was a blessing.  There are also several medications that can help you as well.  I am no on one and no longer or most of the time I do not have the problems any more.  If I am really upset occasionally the symptoms increase.  When you have retention you can get infections etc.  An infection can actually cause retention as well, I have heard this is more often true with a man.

To get you through the weekend I did find a few self-help things, I am not a doctor so
am only sharing with you what I did or do when I am having this problem.
Drinking warm or room temp. fluids help things to relax better.

I use a peri bottle or water bottle with a squirt top to rinse off with, this was initially for cleaning up better after urination but I found it can help me to better relax the muscles to go as well.

Sounds kinda bad but soaking in a warm bath can relax the muscles enough for you to be able to go in the water as well.., then of course shower immediately. (A nurse actually taught me this).

I also found that taking the AZO standard over the counter medicine helps too.  This is not something to take long term again just to get you through so you can see the URO.  My URO was surprised this helped, however
when I contacted the company they told me that AZO relaxes the bladder muscle.

Good luck!  I hope you find relief and get some help soon. It is really important to have checked out.
