  hello,
i have these small bumps on my penis and they have been there for like seven years since i was like six and if they were caused by hair follicles is there a way to get rid of them or will they eventually go away because this has been ruining my life. thanks

Dear Jason,
"Bumps on the penis" is a description that makes diagnosis over the internet impossible.  You do not have penile cancer if the lesions have been present for those many years.  If the bumps are along the glans (head) penis, they are often pearly papules thought to be a normal variant of anatomy not requiring treatment.  Hair follicles on the penile shaft are possible and normal.  Hair can be removed for cosmetic purposes with a variety of techniques including electrolysis.  Bump like lesions can also be caused by sexually transmitted diseases and many other skin conditions.
We are not clear why the bumps are "ruining your life" according to your post.  Follow up with a family doctor or urologist.  If you have a treatable lesion it can be then dealt with.  If your anatomy is normal, you may benefit from psychological counseling in regards to a problem with body image.

More individualized care is available through our department at the Henry Ford Hospital  and its suburban locations (I-800-653-6568).
Sincerely, HFHS M.D.-CK
