prostatitis causing many problems

by Don Fiducci, Oct 04, 2004 12:00AM

  Hello,

I am 40 years old and have been suffering from erection/libido
problems since I developed prostatitis over 10 years ago.
I am a heavy drinker of caffeinated colas and coffee, but I do not drink alcohol but have a history of marijuana drug abuse which I have been clean for 1 1/2 years. I like occasional spicy food, and am at a perfect body weight.

The problem is I never wake up with morning erections and rarely
have normal erections during the day or **** hardons when I get up to urinate (not frequently)and my libido is very weak.I do not
typically experience the classic symptoms of prostatitis as i have in the past except with a major flare up and my PSA is 2.5. I am on Androgel 10 grams daily and my testosterone is 750 and my free testosterone is only 7.6. I have erections when I masturbate
but it takes a long time to climax because of lack of sensation
in the glans tip of the penis and is ejaculate is low.
My question is,with men who have chronic prostatitis like myself
and being a heavy soda drinker and coffee drinker,
could the caffeine be wreaking havoc on my otherwise healthy prostate/ erections, and would completely foregoing the above
improve the situation? One urologist told me "If you avoid all the things (i.e.food) which cause prostatitis, guys usually see a difference in about 3 months." Please help.

                                              Sincerely,

It may be possible for chronic prostatitis to cause the symptoms.  It is also possible that any type of vascular disease (i.e. diabetes) can lead to impaired erections.  Low testosterone is possible - but unlikely in your cases, as you are already taking Androgel.

I would be checked for diabetes (via a simple blood test), as well as analyze the urine for any infection.  Ultrasounds can be considered to evaluate the blood flow to the penis.

You may want to discuss these possibilities with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
