radical prostatectomy

  I am 46 years old and was recently diagnosed with prostrate cancer.  It appears the cancer is at an early stage. After consultation with my urologist and much research I've come to the conclusion that the appropriate treatment for me is a radical prostatectomy.
  I have learned in my research that the skill and experience of the surgeon is an important factor in the long-term success of such an operation.
  My questions are:
  Is there a source(s) I can use to learn about the experience and success rate of urologists in my area without having to personally interview doctors?  Does Henry Ford have information it can provide to me about urologists affiliated with its organization?

With regards to your question regarding the operative experience, morbidity and mortality of  Urologists in your area, the best approach would be to contact the American Urological Association (AUA).   Ask for the background information on the practicing Urologists in your area, i.e. where their interest lies (prostate cancer versus infertility) and how long they have been in practice.  The best thing to do is to ask your potential surgeon what his/her complication rate and what definitive follow up treatment was offered for such complications.
