reacuring sore penis

A couple months ago the head of my penis began feeling raw, tingly and iritated and looked red. I also had some slight bumps around the edge. This lasted about 2 months. During that time it would get a little better then get worse again. I saw a doctor about it and they said it looked like it could be a fungal infection and gave me some cream. The cream didn't seem to do much but after about a month and a half it got better. I asked my doctor if it was somthing i would pass on to my wife and he said he wouldn't worry about it. I was feeling better for a while and was hoping it was just a passing thing and put it out of my mind. After about a month of feeling better the symptoms have come back but not quite as bad. I have had a positive blood test for herpes 1. But was told this was common (My doctor doesn't know about the possitive). What do you think?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Genital herpes is normally caused by HSV type 2, although type 1 can uncommonly lead to genital herpes as well.  A culture of any genital sore would be a more accurate test.

If the antifungal cream is not effective, you can consider dermatitis - which can be treated with a steroid cream.

I would also evaluate the prostate or consider a cystoscopy if the symptoms continue.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
