recurrence of bladder cancer

by Richard-Barker, Jun 12, 1998 12:00AM

What is the recurrence rate for superficial bladder cancer after first surgical removal?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Richard for your question.
The recurrence rate depends on form (connected by a stalk to the bladder versus a broad base) and  how deep the first tumor is, the number of tumors present at first resection and the grade of the resected tumors.. Generally speaking, the recurrence rate is 50%  for all non-invasive transitional cell carcinomas of the the bladder. 16-25% of patients who recur after a  superficial low  grade tumors will have a recurrence  with invasive disease
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling  (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you  may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
