removal of catheter

I had a catheter removed at the end of November 2008.  I have had a great deal of pain upon urination since then.  I'm on my third anibiotic and it is not helping with the pain.  It doesn't always hurt when I urinate which brings me to my quesiton:  Is it possibe that part of the catheter is still in my urethra.  The bubble was NOT punctured before removal.  I never feel like I have emptied my bladder.  Please help me.

You may not be emptying your bladder still. This can give you recurrent infections and difficulty voiding. The tape may have eroded into your urethra and this could cause these symptoms.
Sounds as though you need a cystoscopy and a measure of the urine left in your bladder after you urinate. Urodynamics  are needed to account for your getting up at night.

If the balloon was not ruptured prior to removal, I doubt that there is a foreign body left in the bladder from the catheter. If you have been having persistent/recurrent infections (as demonstrated by positive urine cultures), then the discomfort should get better once you take the proper antibiotic. Your urinalysis should be clear in the midst of treatment.
Why were you catheterized in the first place? Because you were unable to empty your bladder? If this is the case, you may still not be emptying and this can lead to recurrent infections. A stricture? There are many possibles. Ultimately, you need to be seen by a urologist to help unravel the mystery and get you adequately treated.

I had a procedure "Mid Urethal Tape Procedure" and after surgery the catheter was inserted because I couldn't void.  It remained for 3 days.  I am now on my third antibiotic, it is Nitrofurant Monohy, generic for Macrobid.  The Doctor's office just called and the urine sample I left on Monday is positive.  The nurse said I should be feeling better by now.  I started the drug on Monday.  First thing in the AM I have no pain, then it gets worse as the day progresses.  I got up 5 times last night to urinate.
