retractile testicles help

by mac456, Apr 02, 2009 05:45AM
Hi,

I’m 21, from the UK.

I have just come back from the doctors to find out I suffer with retractile testicles.

Basically occasionally my testicle will rise right into my groin area with me having to push it back out into the sack.

My doctor has booked me in for "minor" surgery.

Does anyone have more info on this?

Could I become infertile from this?

What’s involved in the surgery? will I have to take any time off work?

thanks for your help, im just alittle scared

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
At your age the problem is due to a strong cremastric reflex. The operation done will split this muscle fibers to weaken the reflex. You can read more about this on: http://www.urologyedinburgh.co.uk/new_page_178.htm
No, this should normally not cause infertility. However if the testis has been in the inguinal canal for long then it can result in infertility. With retractile testis this complication is less frequent. The surgery is very minor and if you get it operated on a Friday, you will not need to take a day off form work.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

thank you for you post, the link you provided was great, couldnt find anything about the surgery on the internet.

How long are we talking when you say "long" as far as im aware the longest has been about 5-10mins (trying to push it back down), is this long enough to have effect?

i am now thinking about getting a sperm test done, would this be the best thing to do once i have had the operation?

thank you once again

Mac

Hi
Thanks for the update!
Don’t worry, everything will be fine. I am glad you noticed and took care of things at your level. Hence ideally your condition should not pose any problem. And no, that’s not considered long. Do keep me posted regarding your surgery. That’s a great idea---to get a sperm count done.
All the best! Take care!
