Was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Sept 2001.T3a Gleason 7 Original psa 37. Was placed on hormones for 8 months then received conformal radiation concurrent with hormone treatment that lasted a total of 3 years.Psa nadired under 0.06 in August 2005. By Febuary this year psa was .31 then in April .50. the testosterone level in February was 2.7 rising to 3.5 in April. My oncologist says the psa is rising due to testosterone recovery and they would not likely intervene until psa was 1.5.Shoul I be placed back on hormones now before psa goes up any more? Thanks

Three consecutive PSA rises after therapy is certainly concerning. Further testing is recommended to ensure that the cancer has recurred.
Imaging studies like a pelvic CT scan/ProstaScint scan as well as a bone scan (if metastatic disease is suspected) can be considered. Differentiating the PSA into total and free PSA should also be considered. Salvage prostatectomy should be considered if the PSA continues to rise.
These options can be discussed with your urologist.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
