trying to find some information

by Chris__0__0, Dec 09, 1998 12:00AM
A few weeks ago I had a stent placed in my right ureter due to a kidney stone that wouldn't move.  When the doctor placed the stint he noticed some peculiar tissue in my bladder and did a biopsy.  14 days later, I had the stint removed and the doctor told me that the biopsy showed that I had cystitis grandularis.  He has scheduled another appointment with me in 3 months and before that time, I have to go to the lab and give 3 urine samples as he described it that is similar to a woman having a pap smear.  I have been searching for information on cystitis grandularis and have come up empty.  Can you point me in an informational direction.  Does this diagnosis assure me of cancer in the future?  Will this or has this affected my fertility?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Dear Chris
Thanks for your questions.
Cystitis glandularis is nonspecific inflammatory lesion and is found in forty percent of autopsy bladders.  ( The patients died of unrelated causes).  This diagnosis does not increase your risk of bladder cancer and does not need to be treated or followed with surveillance cystoscopy.  There is no documented relation with infertility that I am aware to date.    For more information you should try a Medline search and list cystitis glandularis as a text word.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling  (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you  may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
