urethral erosion

My husband had an urethral erosion from a 800 ams urethral sphincter replacement.  He has not been able to void for
a month now and have been told he has this erosion and the cuff has to be removed.  We still have another week before he is scheduled for surgery, how much damage is going to be caused by the time he has it removed?  Dr. has
suspected since the 11th of April it has eroded, however, has opted to leave catheter in place hoping it would heal itself before removing the cuff.  Is that even possible?
