urinary reflux in Adults?

by robkfromphilly, Jul 04, 2007 04:46AM
Hi, I'm a 23 year old male, with a neurogenic bladder, and have had it all my life, most likely due to spina bifida occulta, which doesn't debilitate me much other then the neurogenic bladder at times. I've tried several medications off and on over the years, and yesterday I had an Ultrasound of my bladder and kidneys for the purpose of deciding a new medication; based on the idea that urine is not refluxing into my kidneys. I've had ultrasounds in the past as a child, where it was proved no urinary retention existed into the kidneys, what I was wondering, is it likely retention would come about now, eventhough the ureters obviously have grown over the years? Or is this not a factor in the matter

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I have no problem urinating, the problem more so exists in emptying my bladder completely. But any opinions on the idea of urinary reflux developing as one gets older, would be appreciated, thanks
