urinary retention

I am a 27-year-old female.  I went to the doctor with abdominal discomfort, increased urinary frequency, and feelings of always having to urinate (starting 3-4 months ago).  I also 'leak' a little after using the restroom and immediately feel like I need to go again.  My urianalysis was clear and blood tests were done and they came back fine.  An ultrasound showed my kidneys are clear but I am not voiding completely.  The urologist put me on Detrol 2 weeks ago and the problems have gotten worse.  I had a pelvic exam 3 months ago and everything appeared normal (including my Pap).  I have never had children or suffered abdominal trauma.  I was diagnosed with HPV 4 years ago and was treated for mild dysplasia in 2002, and have been screened for STDs and got negative results.  Could the HPV be causing any of this?  No one seems to know what is wrong with me and I am completely miserable.  I am bloated and am always uncomfortable due to feeling like I need to go to bathroom all the time.  What would cause this and what can I do to make it stop?  Please help me.

Reasonable initial tests have already been done, including a urinalysis and a screen for STDs.  I am not aware that HPV can cause your symptoms.

You may want to inquire about urodynamic testing which can be arranged via your urologist.  They are a group of tests designed to evaluate lower urinary tract function.  These tests may include the following:

* Cystometry (or cystometrogram) evaluates bladder function by measuring pressure and volume of fluid in the bladder during filling, storage, and voiding.

* Uroflowmetry measures the rate of urine flow.

* Urethral pressure profile tests urethral function.

* Leak point pressure determines the bladder or abdominal pressure when leakage occurs due to increased abdominal pressure (Valsalva or cough) to assess urethral resistance.

You may want to inquire about these tests with your personal physician.

I would have a CT with contrast ordered by my GYN. Then you will probably need to self-catheterize. Check out the IC network. There are many  answers there and I'm available at ***@****.
I had the same problem. My bladder was and is nerve damaged due to my spine.
