urine infection/antibiotics

i was diagnosed with urine infection a few days after surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst.  the only sympton i had was severe stomach cramps which i thought was associated to the the surgery but after a urine test at the a&e, they found that it was a urnine infection.  i was given antibiotics, which didn't take into effect until the 3rd/4rth day.  i've now finished the prescribed course, however, i've found that my urine is still very yellow despite me drinking more than 1.5l of water a day and the stomach pain still comes and go but not as bad...should i be worried?  will i need to go the doctor again?  please advise...

Hello,
It can be due to persistent or recurrent urine infection. Recurrent urine infections could be due to various reasons. Most common cause is stones in kidney which is blocking urine pathway. Other causes are changing sexual partners frequently, pregnancy, diabetes and of course childhood infections. The urine can also be due to retention of urine anywhere in its flow due t obstruction. The obstruction can be due to abnormality of structures since birth, stones or diseases like tumors(unlikely). Females are more prone to urine infections. So you should get a ultrasound, CT scan done and also some urine and blood tests.

Till then, drink plenty of water and take some anti inflammatory pain killer like Diclofenac or Ibuprofen. If the symptoms worsen then get an evaluation done from a urologist.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Go to your GP as you probably still have a urine infection which needs treating. Your GP will also be able to advise you on other possible causes however a UTI seems more likely. If you dont treat this ASAP then it will only become harder to treat.
