I have had this done several times and at least from my experience with other bladder and urethra pain patients many docs do this in office. MY URO though is quick and
sensitive, giving me the right to say stop when I can not tolerate it, yet encouraging me that if we make it through it last longer. I have never not made it through, honestly the fear of the procedure is worse to me then actually doing it BUT read how I go about it:
My uro only used lidocaine while doing it for most. I however ask in advance for something. I have found by taking a muscle relaxer like Valium right be fore going to the procedure (GET A DRIVER!) really helps things be relaxed and go better all the way around. I ask them to use lidocaine and take an instant ice pack with me and put ice on immediately afterward helps too. Taking AZO, or pryidium which is prescription also helps cut down on the soreness afterward. Ther eis a script pryidium plus that has a pain med in it but you have to have the pharmacy order it in advance and get a script. It works well thoug!
Dr. Moldwin a big IC guru also does them with valium etc.I also have a compounder that can make a urethra suppository that can be inserted before the procedure
to numb things more as well.
Feel free to pm me if you have any ??? , want the compounder's contact info or just need to talk it through.

Hi,
Majority of the urologists perform this procedure under general anesthesia. However, some do it under local anesthesia also using lignocaine jelly. Hence, this procedure can be done under local anesthesia. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
