what sort of test??

I have urinary retention for two weeks now, tomorrow I may have full diagnoses, weather its due to infection or blockage, i had it for 2 weeks now, when i want to urinate i stand for a while then it comes and not always fluently, i have to drink tons of water to urinate more than once, i just want to know what test to do to know if the kidney is full of fluids?? and how to evaluate its condition other than the creatinine level, mine is 1.2 now, I'm scared, i have the retention and pain in my left side, i did a ct scan but without dye, as I'm afriad something is wrong with my kidneys so I didn't want to push them more by injecting dye into my system, also the emergency doc i went to said this is due to infection and he prescribed cipro 250, is it safe to take it? all my blood work is within normal range and my sonar showed no stones, the CT ( without dye only drank lots of water) showed 2mm opaque stone ad middle calyx of left kidney, mild fullness of left pelvicalyceal system and ectatic left ureter and no stones in the bladder, should i do it with dye in order to be more visible? and since I have the retention I'm afraid the dye might damage my kidneys, please help anyone ;(

Thanks a lot for your reply, there is something very odd going on indeed, my symptoms seems weird, I've been having severe pain in my abdomen as well, especially on the left side, lower left side and just above the navel, real tightness in the abdomen, and hard to pass gas and stool, although when i do pass my stools are very loose and watery like, diarrhea, the pain is agonizing, and it makes me sweat like hell, so i doubt its IBS, at the same time having difficulty passing urine, but now its a lot better, passing urine, but still something is wrong and sometimes i have pain in my lower back and its severe as well, sometimes on the sides, both flanks, i take no medication at all till this point, the abdomen pain itself is a little weird, the attack starts right after I have a bowel movement, my doctor suspects it might be due to dysentery, but i really don't know, my stool test showed entamoeba histolytica, my CT scan of the abdomen with dye this time, showed all normal, except for mildly enlarged spleen, and my blood work is normal but my creatinine level is 1.1 and sometimes 1.0, when in the past it was 0.7 before all this illness starts, my other blood work i guess is normal too, any ideas please?! thanks in advance.

Hi,
How are you? What other symptoms are present? If there is infection, antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin may help. You can take this as prescribed and see if symptoms resolve. Otherwise, additional diagnostic tests such as blood and imaging tests including Kidney function tests  ( BUN, creatinine, creatinine clearance and urine tests). Talk to your doctor about this for proper management and to ease any worry. Take care and do keep us posted.
