what is a safe amount of vit d 3 to take on a daily basis

Yes just wanted to know what is a safe amount of vitamin d 3 that I could take on a daily basis.  Don't think I am deficient and take 1,000 to 2,000 iu daily now but just was curious if I should be taking more.  53 yrs old and just in menopause.

Perhaps you should look into taking a magnesium supplement with your vitamin D, lolly?

I also take 5000 IU twice a day, but I started seeing improvements a lot faster when I started taking magnesium supplements (I take 250 mg twice a day). Magnesium deficiency often walks hand in hand with vitamin D deficiency, and magnesium helps the body use vitamin D.

I've only been supplementing since the beginning of February, but my bone pain, muscle pain, insomnia, and chest pain is mostly gone (I had an EKG for my very worrying chest pain in January), and I have a lot less fatigue. I have plenty of other symptoms to deal with (including some I didn't have before I started taking vitamin D; which is worrying but not out of line with other peoples' experiences), and I'm not having my levels tested again until May (my level was 12 ng/ml), but I think my magnesium supplementing is aiding my vitamin D levels significantly.

I take 5000 IU twice a day. I have been doing this for over a year and my levels are still in the LOW normal range.

The adult Human skin can usually generate about 10 000 IU of Vitamin D3 after 15 mins in the summer sun (between 10am and 3pm), and 20 000 IU after 25 to 30 mins.

Its a good thing you are taking D3, but you can easily increase the dosage to 10 000 IU per day.

You cannot really overdose on Vitamin D3. There could be negatives if you took for example  900 000 IU or 1 000 000 IU on a daily basis, but that was a very special case with a guy who took liquid Vitamin D3 which wasn't diluted by the company he got it from.
Honestly, I'd love to get my hands on that and get 1 000 000 IU in a single dose, then supplement with 10 000 IU.
:D

Anyway... going by the above estimates I first wrote, you should be able to easily take 20 000 IU of Vitamin D3 on a daily basis with no trouble if you want to raise your levels faster, but a similar approach can be achieved with 10 000 IU supplementation on a daily basis.

You'd need to have your Vitamin D levels checked to see where they are exactly.
You'll only be able to tell then... but 1 000 IU to 2 000 IU on a daily basis is not really enough.
5 000 IU would be a START - but 10 000 IU would be a lot better.
