My daughter and son-in-law were both on phentermine for a few months. Neither of them lost huge amounts of weight and when they went off the pills, they gained back everything they lost, plus some. Both are grossly overweight.
A good weight loss program has to include diet and exercise or no amount of pills are going to work/have a lasting effect.
Phentermine is a widely prescribed appetite suppressant. I would be comfortable taking that if my doctor prescribed that to me. In fact, my daughter took this for a period of time, about four months, lost about 40 pounds, now a year later, has kept the weight off and lost more on her own. She was quite committed to a program that worked. It wasn't a take-the-med-and-nothing-else approach. I'm not sure I would take the other medicine. It sounds like a cocktail of a bunch of medicines that could actually be dangerous and are being used off label. I'm not comfortable with that. Have you talked with your doc about your concerns? I think it is very important to ask-ask-ask and ask again about anything that is of concern. Do you use the same pharmacist all the time? We've used the same one for about 25 years, they know us and are very helpful in explaining pros and cons of medicines.
Wow, what kind of doctor prescribed that combo for you?
Tri-iodothyronine is a thyroid hormone that speeds up metabolism; it should NEVER be taken if you don't have a thyroid condition that warrants it. Do you have a thyroid condition? If so, is it being treated adequately? Tri-iodothyronine, by itself is bad enough, let alone having an amphetamine like drug, plus both stimulants and depressant...... WOW.
Phentermine is another stimulant.
I don't ever recommend pills for losing weight, because, even those that work, only work as long as you take them, and none of them are intended for long term use. Typically, as soon as the pills are discontinued, the weight comes back, unless you develop and maintain lifestyle changes that will support the weight loss.
Best of luck.
