I have suffered for many years at the hand of my thyroid and currently very cognizant of what i eat. I have tried almost every diet you can think of HCG, Adkins, purple food, 1100 diabetic diet, no carbs, no fat/low fat, starvation, diet and excercise, balanced diet, wonton, soup, water diet, cabbage diet, apple cidar vinegar diet, all without success. I am at my wits end and am very frustrated. I have done everything in my power to safeguard my health, but my doctor won't treat my thyroid until i have cancer or it kills itself. Any ideas? I could definitely use some help.
Do you have blood work that confirms a thyroid condition? You should be getting tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4; you should also have antibody tests done to confirm/rule out Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is the leading cause of hypothyroidism in the developed world.
If you have Hashimoto's, the antibodies gradually "kill off" healthy thyroid tissue, so the thyroid can no longer produce hormones. As thyroid production decreases, symptoms increase to the point of one being very ill.
My first bit of advice would be to find a different doctor, if your blood test results clearly indicate a thyroid condition.
It's unlikely that any diet will work until your thyroid is adequately treated, and even then, many of us continue to struggle with weight issues, so we have to really work at keeping it in check.
