I would like to take the B12 shot, but not sure what dosage and how often.  I am 51, 5'6, 130 lbs.

Why do you want to take the shots?

Vitamin B12 is prescription only, with dosage and frequency determined by your doctor depending on blood levels.

If you are thinking of taking the shots for weight loss - I can tell you from my own experience, that it doesn't work for that.  I have pernicious anemia (B12 deficiency) and inject every 2 weeks - I've been on this for over 2 years and have not lost an ounce because of it.

I am not doing it for weight loss.  I am always fatigued and have been told by people getting the B12 shots that it really helps.  I do not want to join a weight loss center to get the shots, which is where most of my friends go to get the shots.

The shots would be available via prescription from your doctor and as I said before the dosage and frequency would be determined by the B12 levels in your blood.  It's a simple blood test and shouldn't take long to get results back.

I do my own injections every 2 weeks.  B12 does help with fatigue; but I would recommend also that maybe you would want to have your thyroid levels tested at the same time.  I began taking the B12 shots and though it helped immensely, I still didn't feel right; a year later I finally got my doctor to test my thyroid and we found that was an additional problem.

Good luck.
