Hi Rachael.

I'm not going to give you some magic trick that will make you thin, healthy and erase your bad memories of being bullied. But I can give you some tips, share some of my  wisdom that i gained.

My first tip is to set some reasonable goals for you. Losing alot of weight requires time, patience and discipline.  Unless you have the ability to alter the laws of physics you won't be able to make time go faster. So you should concentrate on the things you can actually affect.

Patience. Weight-loss, definitive weight-loss takes time. Nothing happens over night. You  need to track more than just your weight. i recommend tracking your body measurements. Any change your body makes if you notice it and track it down. It will give you a good pat on your back. Keep your chin up It,s going to be a long road. But if you can see where you've been it will make the destination a little bit closer with every day, week or month!

Discipline. You'll have to watch you eat. There is no other way. I personally track down all the meals  I eat. By knowing my BMR I know that by using about 300/500 less calories per day I should with my current daily activity level consume more than I eat. Thus losing weight. Still you have to remember a calorie is a ancient not very dependable way of tracking energy levels (1 calorie is the amount enery it takes to elevate temperature of water by one degree) Your body altough it's mostly water doesn't behave the same way as your oven. If you eat a thousand calrorie worth of salad and a thousand calorie of potato chips your body won't  be able to process them the same way.

If you sit in an office 9 hours per day. Make sure you walk during you break. If you can walk your way to work. Challenge your body. Try to integrate some exercise at work. Stretch yourself, perform some air squats to augment your BMR, the higher it is the more energy your body will consume.

And please don't worry about what other people may think of you. You are not trying to lose weight for them. You are working for rachael from November 2012. She's healthier stronger and more confident. Don't dissapoint her. She needs  you to be strong now!

Good luck!

You need to get specific tests done on your thyroid in order to make sure your dosage is correct.  The "basic" tests are TSH, Free T3 and Free T4; however, you should also get tested for thyroid antibodies to confirm/rule out Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

Do see the specialist as soon as possible, since the longer you wait, the worse things will get. Hypothyroidism is not something to be let go.

Getting your thyroid issue under control is most important and can only be done with thyroid replacement medication.

I am on a 1200 calorie diet for PCOS (low fat and carbs too).  I would advise you to look for a nutritionist that specializes in hormone disorders.  Also, join a gym with a personal trainer or training groups.  I know this may be a hard step to make, but the nutritionist and personal trainer can customize a plan just for you.  With persistence, ups and downs (emotionally and weight), you will receive more benefits than a surgery!

If you are hypothyroid, I'm assuming that you were put on some type of medication.  The very first thing you will need to do is make sure your thyroid hormone levels are where you need them to be, otherwise, no amount of dieting and/or exercise is going to make much difference.  I know this because I, too, have hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism slows down your  metabolism, so you don't use calories like you would otherwise, and weight loss is very difficult for some of us.

If you can let me know what your actual thyroid levels are, from your lab report, along with the reference ranges, I can help guide you with getting your levels right.

You might also want to check out the thyroid forum, here on Med Help, as there's a ton of information that might be helpful.
