Can lose weight

Well, I've been losing weight, albeit somwhat slowly over the past few months. I've dropped around 10% of my weight and have been feeling pretty good about myself, although these past few days I managed to gain back 3 pounds :(

What worked for me was to cut out a lot of fats/oils and red meat and to eat a lot of salad and walk a few miles per week. Anyway, have hope, this is doable.  It takes a long period to put on the pounds, so the slow and steady appraoch IMHO wins the race.

I've been using the Med Help weight tracker- please try it- it's really cool.  I also set up a BMI calculator for those that may be interested l- please feel free to try it:

It is so nice to be able to talk to/with soemone who was behind this whole site -  It has been a life lie for me alread -  first with breast cancer scare, then with ovary issues and most recently with weight and fitnes goals...

You are right that slow and steady wins the race... weight will always go on quicker than it comes off because thats the way the body works.. quick weight loss is temporary and mostly fluid anyway...aiming for 1-2lb a week is realistic and achievable for most people.

Bad days are just that bad days, not failures.

Good days are springboards for good weeks and good months...

Enjoy the good days and improve  on the bad days the next day ;)

CONGRATULATIONS on losing 10% of your weight!  Awesome job!!!  Isn't it Amazing how much better you feel and how much healthier you are?  3 pounds gained is a minor stumble and part of the process in transitioning to a healthy lifestyle.  We are all human and these fluctuations are bound to happen.  They key is realizing today is a brand new day full of possibilities and never giving up!  Failure only happens when we fail to keep trying ... success will happen as we hone our skills and keep moving forward.

Here is my favorite story that I have printed and placed on my refrigerator that helps remind me to make healthy choices and feed the good wolf ...

ONE evening, and old Cherokee told his grandson about the eternal battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My boy, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.”

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.”

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, tolerance, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The boy thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

Sunshine wishes and supportive hugs to all ...

Hi Phil ~ Nice to make your acquaintance and thank you for sharing so honestly.  Truly appreciate your site and all you have done to help others achieve success!  :]

Losing weight slowly and understanding the need to do so is certainly the wisest choice.  Lovingly and proudly refer to it as being a "Turtle" and gain strength from knowing that, albeit slow, the turtle ran the race.  The hare, who thought it could be done fast and didn't put in the effort, finished last.

I, too, replaced red meats with chicken, turkey and fish.  Have a suggestion for everyone regarding salads.  If you take a jumbo convenience store cup and put your lettuce in it ... along with the healthy additions you like (carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc) ... then add 2 TBSP of your favorite low-calorie dressing (Paul Neumann makes some really yummy ones like Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette ,Honey Mustard or Balsamic Vinaigrette for 40 to 80 calories) ... put the lid on and shake it, shake it, shake it!  This coats everything with dressing, you don't feel like you're having to skimp on the dressing and each bite contains flavor.  If you elect, you can also add a TBSP of parmesan cheese for an additional 21 calories.

Will definitely try the BMI calculator and the weight tracker, but am researching my weights along the way so my graph can show my progress.  Having lost 146 pounds to date (19  more to go before I am half of me) want the graph to reflect all my progress.

Thanks again!
