Continuous weight gain

by cookie_jar, Aug 24, 2009 10:18PM
At the beginning of this year I went on a low-carb high protein diet and lost about 15 lbs. ( I have used this approach before and had much success).  Unfortunately, Since February not only have I gained that weight back I have gained another 20 lbs. and continue to gain about 3-5 more lbs a month. I am only 5'2 so twenty lbs on me is a ton.  I have had my insulin and thyroid checked and all tests come back normal.  Additionally, my hair is thinning out and I have little energy for anything, I have a difficult time falling asleep, I wake up several times every night.  Any thoughts, suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated.

The first question I'd have to ask is: what were your thyroid levels??  I know you say "normal" - but I learned the hard way that labs use different reference ranges for what is "normal" and most doctors willingly go by those levels; however, all too many labs are using outdated ranges ---- I'd also have to ask what thyroid tests were actually done?  That's another one I learned the hard way; most doctors go strictly by TSH values, which is not a good indicator for thyroid levels..........I strongly recommend that you check out the thyroid forum - you have many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism and if your antibodies weren't tested, you could also have the autoimmune Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.

Yes, I have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism and it's not an easy thing to deal with, but the sooner you begin getting treatment, the better.........
