Daylight Saving Time

by Barb135, Mar 08, 2009 09:37AM
I have a horrible time getting used to daylight saving time - does anyone else??

It wreaks havoc with my sleep patterns - which I have enough trouble with as it is.  I don't know how many of you saw the post by Dr Park the other day regarding sleep and weight loss/gain, but it sure opened my eyes.  Daylight saving time also messes with my eating patterns.  I've never been able to figure out just why it's so hard for me to get used to that one hour change.  It never bothers me to travel from one time zone to another.

I'm wondering if anyone else has trouble getting used to daylight saving time, how it affects you and what you do to make the transition easier.

I know there are members here who are parts of the country/world that do not observe daylight saving time - your comments/ideas are still welcome.

I was lucky that because I was so exhausted from being up every 2 hours the night before that I was able to sleep well last night and had no obligations so slept in.  Regardless I feel groggy today although the dismal weather doesn't help that situation.  I drank more coffee today than I usually do and am hoping I will get to sleep at a decent hour tonight and hopefully be past this change.

I was just starting to enjoy it being light earlier in the mornings!  But I must say I will enjoy it not getting dark so early.  I guess I can't have it both ways...

I think I wish, though, that Daylight Saving Time would just go away.

On a positive note, when it's a little warmer, I'll be able to take some walks and be closer to my goal and seeing TuTu Boy on YouTube.  That's one way of looking at it, huh?

If I got to stay up later at night, I would enjoy it being light longer, but it's sssooo hard to go to bed and get to sleep when the sun is still shining.  Last year I even had to go buy room darkening curtain for my bathroom because it faces the west and the sun shines right in.

Ok - I'll quit whining now.

Oh, yuck!  I forgot about that!  I remember as a kid living in FL and having to go to bed at 7:30 when it was still light out.  That's hard.  And to think that you have to do it all through the summer...I can't imagine!

The Clown Girls should form a union and boycott Daylight Saving Time.  None of us should observe it.  Are there enough of us to make a dent?  Solidarity, GIRLS!

Not getting a lot of response on this post, so apparently I'm the only one that has a problem with it; so maybe I need to just put on my big girl panties and suck it up, huh??

by twehner5, Mar 09, 2009 06:11AM
I just heard on the radio that DST messes with our circadian rhythm, so NO, you're NOT the only one who has problems with it.  You can suck it up if you want to, OR the CLOWN GIRLS CAN UNITE!!!  I call for a STRIKE!

by Barb135, Mar 09, 2009 01:25PM
I know it messes with your circadian rhythm, but I'm still not seeing any takers here for a strike!!  Unless of course, you think you and I can do it by ourselves!!

Well, I got up late and into work late. My alarm went off, but my body has not "sprung forward" yet.

Daylight savings didn't used to be so early. I always thought it was the end of March.

What the ?^&#!!$%

by Barb135, Mar 09, 2009 07:00PM
Well, alright - here's someone who's after my own heart.  And you are right - they have upped the date.  I believe for a while it even used to be like the first weekend in April, then they upped it to end of March - now look where it's at.

BUT it doesn't matter WHEN they do it, it still messes with my body clock.  I get used to it about when it's time to change back in the fall!!!!!!!!!!!

by Lonelymom, Mar 10, 2009 10:48AM
I wish I could boycott it as well but with work I have to observe it so that I am not late. I can't seem to go to sleep at night because of the light and don't want to get up in the morning because of the dark. I am like you though I do enjoy the daylight staying up longer in the evening. I have plenty of time to take my bike ride and still have time for other things like the dreaded house work.

I don't know anyone who likes daylight savings time!!!

by Barb135, Mar 10, 2009 04:56PM
OK - if I didn't have to get up at 3:30 am, I would love the longer light too.  I think we need to contact our congressmen!!  When daylight saving time was first initiated, there were not so many people working "weird" hours and having to get up/go to bed at strange times.  How can we make them rethink this whole thing??
