Emotional Eating--And it's not even Christmas yet

Well, I'm sure I've undone that one pound loss I had last week.  I've been feeling sick and haven't worked out since Friday, and was doing some emotional eating yesterday and today!

Well, I'm still going to have to enjoy SOME holiday treats, but will try and keep things in check.  I'll be out of town for the holiday and am worried about being able to workout, but I'm packing my pedometer and hope to at least do some walking.

Does any one else have some survival strategies to share?

We all must understand we don't eat and gain weight for lack of emotional pains. The weight can be lost and smart eating and planning is great, but if the emotions assosiated with eating are not dealt with then the weight will always come back. If you are still having trouble with eating or addiction then do some soul searching and clean out your baggage.

Just my experience and opinion trying to help you all out.

Smaller portions and avoid "empty calories". Drink water or seltzer, don't waste the calories on drinks. You could also use a salad plate for dinner, so you don't overfill your plate. My house is gonna be bad for Christmas, besides the turkey there will be tons of bakery items. Im thinking when BF goes to the bakery I'll go with for maybe some sugar free cookies.

I agree with using a smaller plate and drink, drink, drink.  Try to keep your hands full of something unedible.  It sounds funny but if you have something in your hands its very hard to grab a potato chip and dip or vice versa.

Yep....I'm having a little bit of the things that I like, just not going too crazy.  Of course it is more goodies than I would normally have (normally wouldn't have any at all....or very rarely).  Pledge to feel good about it, have a good time, and stay within a reasonable range so getting back on track right after Christmas won't be a problem.  I think that the 27th sounds perfect Trudie!

Since it's going to be almost impossible to avoid all the goodies, you both could try cutting down the portions - maybe you could try using smaller plates - that way, you would still have a plate full, just not such large portions.  And of course, try to go for the fresh fruits, veggies etc.  Maybe you try eating an apple before each meal to help curb your appetite.  Or drink a large glass of water before the meal to help feel fuller.

And do try to get in a bit of exercise, even if it's only a short walk or something.

Last, but not least - don't beat yourselves up so much.  We all have those times when we just can't stay on track for one reason or another, so consider it a bump in the road, then get back on track right after it's over.

All that being said   Merry Christmas to all

Wish I could help but I am in need of help too.  I'm away visiting my parents and they keep pushing food at me.  I've decided to do my best not to go too crazy and to get back at it on the 27th with watching the food intake and doing exercise.
