Happy Halloween

by Barb135, Oct 31, 2009 07:10AM
Just a quick post to wish everyone a happy, safe Halloween.

I'm curious if you have children who will be going trick or treating (or maybe did so last night)?  If so, what do YOU do to keep from nibbling on their "proceeds"??

I have no children at home, so I don't have that dilemma staring me in the face.

When my children were young and did go trick or treating, I didn't have a weight problem, nor was I particularly fond of all the candy.

The kids always get to much candy and I have been doing this for years. Nobody seems to have a problem with it. On Halloween night everyone eats all the candy they want and they each fill up two sandwich bags full of what they want to eat for the next two days. The rest of the candy goes to work with dad or grandma. I don't care if they eat their candy for breakfast or if they can't finish dinner because it's only for two days.

I do not believe in leaving the candy in the house for months on end so that you can be hounded by the kids night and day to eat it. That only leads to you bribing the kids with it or them overeating at dinner so they can have it after. I also don't believe in letting candy sit around the house so that every time I cave in I can hate my guts for another day of failed willpower.

I'll have a few pieces tonight and then it will be gone and I won't touch the kids candy because it's theirs. With all the school parties and holidays we really don't need to go overboard just because it's Halloween.

Way to go -- I like that idea of letting them eat as much as they want for a short period, then removing the rest of it.

Of my 2 kids, only one was a sugar fiend and it was always a struggle to keep her out of the candy.  My son never did eat the much sugar, which was good, because he was dx'd with juvenile diabetes at the age of 10.  Usually all he ever wanted was one or 2 pieces and he was done with it.  In a way, that things even worse because then our daughter thought SHE was  entitled to his candy too......................lol  They are now both grown, with kids of their own.

Well, we didn't get a single trick or treater tonight.  Last year we got 1 kid and since two families moved in across the street we were hoping for more.  We really miss seeing the kids.  We'd lived on a farm for 4 years so had none and when we moved to this small town we had hoped to enjoy the kids again but no dice.  They like the richer suburbs...

Anyway, at least I bought stuff that isn't too bad for you and that I'm not all that crazy about but I did get into it.  Luckily hubby and son may kill the rest and hopefully very quickly!

Hi All!  Hope you had a lovely Halloween.  My kids are teens and active with their friends, so since they were both off and about, my husband and I decided to make it a date night.  This was really cool because I didn't buy any of that candy at all this year, so no chance for me to eat it up.  lol.  I was fairly well behaved diet-wise at dinner as well.  So all around, I'd say Halloween was a win-win this year.  : )
