She needs to talk with her family. Hiding away doesn't make the problem go away. Most eating disorders are psychological.!!! Just like depression, so would you tell or suggest to someone going through depression to go hang out alone?? I sure hope not! The best thing this girl can do is fine support in her family!

We hope you have enlisted the help of your parents and the support of your entire family.  We would also  hope that the meals being served are healthy ones that the whole family are eating together.  For many families meal time is a very important time of the day, because the parents have been working all day and the children have been in school or doing other activities, so they gather at meal time to discuss the day.

We would also hope that you have been checked out by your doctor to make sure there are no underlying medical issues that would cause weight gain or inability to lose.  If you haven't been, you should talk to your parents and ask them to take you.

Because you're so young and your body isn't fully developed, you must be sure that you're losing weight in a safe manner.  Your parents and your doctor are the best ones to help you do this.

What teen hangs with their family anyway?  I'm not saying to avoid them!  I'm just saying to get away from that table.  I hope she will see them somewhere else besides at the table.  Her family shoud support her and understand if she doesn't go to the table.  A diet doesn't work unless everyone in the house does it. She may have a sibling that likes a lot of fried foods with ketchup and such.  She will probably eat whatever is put in front of her if she is an emotional eater like most of us

BTW: Loosing weight is 20% about the exercise and 80% the food you consume.
Here's some healthy food ideas to help you out. (:
- an apple with a spoon of peanut butter (sweet)
- roasted seaweed (salty)
- frozen blueberries with milk and honey <3 (sweet)
- Trail mix (without m&m's) (salty)
- 1 piece 60% dark chocolate
- popcorn (without butter or cheese) (salty)
-an apple with Irish cheese <3 (salty and sweet)
- frozen apple sauce (squeeze packets) (sweet)
- suck on ice :P
- granola
- fish
- celery with Peanut butter
- figs <3
- salads (tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, romaine lettuce, avocado, feta cheese...etc)
- strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries.
(AVOID) too much dairy products (cheese, milk..etc) sugar, candy! ..Bread, soda! ... and even ranch dressing (extra sauces.)

Also: Look up Tiffany Ross workout videos on YouTube, they are fun yet very effective!

Hi Lauren! (: First of all ignore the comment above. Lol You need advise from someone who is around your age and struggles with the same issues. That person is me. First of, I'm 16 and I have struggled with food most of my life. Therefore, I know that you can't just simply stop eating unhealthy food or loose weight. I am an emotional eater and Chances are you are too. Emotional eaters are people who eat when they're happy, sad, angry... pretty much all the time. Most people use food as a friend, as a way to avoid all feelings. I emotional eat to cover up a difficult past.

Food addicts are like drug addict, but worse. You see, drug addicts can get rid of the drugs and avoid them. But for food addicts,... Everyone has to eat, so you can't just toss out the food.

Anyways, in order to loose weight, you are going to have to change your way of living. First you need to write down all the reasons you want to loose weight for, then pin it on the bathroom mirror or the fridge. It might be embarrassing, but if it helps, do whatever helps. A lock for the fridge would help too... Haha. :P

Next, you need to seriously talk to your parents about your weight and the food kept in the house. Tell them  how being the weight you are will decrease your lifespan and how if you keep eating the same way... You'll just keep getting bigger. It's true... Unfortunately. :(
After that, start eating lots of veggies, fruit and protein. That means say goodbye to the sugar, it is the leading cause for cancer!!  After about a month or two of healthy eating, start including exercise. Join a sports team at school, like tennis, aerobics or join a dance class. Find something you love and go for for it. If you have ANY questions, email me at: ***@****. God Bless, - Maya (:

Why would you encourage a 14 year old, who is obviously going through a rough time with their weight , that they avoid their family at dinner time! That is the worst advise you could ever suggest! Family support is what she needs! And eating sensible well balance d meals with her FAMILY! NOT SHUT UP IN HER ROOM LIKE AN OUT CAST! GEEZE!

Why would you encourage someone to avoid their family? Nowhere did this person say their family wasn't supportive! That is the worst advice I've ever heard! You should be taking the opportunity at dinner to sit with your family and talk about what's bothering you.... Not going and hiding in your room!!!!!! And the best advise for weight loss would be eat a variety of fruits and veggies and lean meats. Avoid high processed foods like white bread and any packaged foods and soda. Water and/or 100℅ fruit juice, fresh if you have a juicer. Starting out slow with the exercise is good. Especially if you are not used to exercising. But ALWAYS look for support from your family! Do not hide in your bedroom like that other person suggested. That is not good emotionaly or physically!

Your whole family needs to support you.  Don't eat their suppers. Don't even go to the table since their food will entice you.  Take something healthy to your room.  Take 30 minutes to eat that.  In a couple of weeks, your stomach will shrink, and you won't even want their food.  It will be easier to resist.   You will feel bloated if you eat their food.  Try it!

I can feel your pain as I was an overweight teen myself. You are on the right track with the exercise just make sure to increase it as your endurance grows. As far as good goes portion control and carb control are key factors I have found. Also fruits and veggies are your friend especially things like celery, cucumbers and apples. Good luck on your endeavor I wish only the best of luck for you.

try to eat slowly and avoid boredom eating. Before having an unhealthy snack like chips ask or yourself if you want an apple if its a no to the apple then your probably just bored and not hungry. keep up the excercise! good job and just remember cut down on junk food, this doesn't mean you can't have any but think of it as a treat as opposed to a staple in your diet
