I've been MIA for awhile but the good news is that I just joined the local "Y" and am

going to try to join a Yoga class that is low impact and one that maybe I can do with my ankle .. at least I will try .. being barefoot on that foot may be a big problem for the ankle (severe tibial tendonitis .. I wear orthotics and high top sneaks 18hrs a day) but unless I try it and maybe sit out the standing parts, I just will never know.

In the meantime, maybe I can do some swimming .. 2yrs ago I couldn't even tread water cause of the ankle problem --- hoping it's healed a bit and I can do some ... if not, at least I tried.

The kids enjoy the free swim time on the membership ... so we are all excited.

Congratulations on joining the Y - I wish there was one near me (there is one in town, but WAY out of my way to get to).

I'm glad you are going to give the yoga a try.  I'm sure there should be some poses that you can do that won't be too hard on your ankle.  You might also find it beneficial to wear some type of elastic support (such as ace bandage, etc).  I have some trouble with my ankles (one of them has been operated on) and sometimes I have to wear something to help support them when I'm doing yoga (or any type of workout).  AND you don't have to do the complete pose - like it calls for standing on one leg with the other foot even with your knee (tree pose), just don't raise the one foot so high.  Just see what you can do - it might even help strengthen the ankle as long as you don't over do.

Also the water is great because it "takes the weight off".  Again, I wish I had that as an option.

You're going to do great & I'm sure the instructors will be able to give you things to do that won't hurt you.  YOU GO GIRL.

YEAHHH YOUUUU!!!  The family who exercises together .. learns the importance of exercise and stays healthy together!

Yoga is a wonderful low impact exercise and hope you will share your experiences!  It builds our core muscles.  Have to share with you that I popped out of bed at 5 am positive that I would just get up and "do" the yoga exercises on TV.  My, oh my .. that yoga is really amazing!  Just standing there in those positions uses your muscles and you can really feel it!  Can't hardly wait to hear what you think!

Enjoy the water, it is simply the best because we are buoyant and the pressure is off our joints.

So very, very happy and proud of you and your efforts.  YOU are a WINNER!

I'm excited for you!  I hope your Y is as good as the one in my town.

Good luck.  Tell every instructor of every class you take about your ankle.  They are usually good about giving alternative moves you can do, if there are any.  Good for you for trying!

I will be keeping my fingers crossed that this will work out for you!
