PCOS and weight control

by danielle0817, Jun 19, 2007 01:43PM
Hi I am new to this forum and I have a few questions...
I was just diagnosed with PCOS on Friday, which explains alot of the weight I have gained in the past two years even though I don't eat more  then I should and I work out on a regular basis.  I am also a very active person.
My doctor has put me on metformin, which he says will help me loose some of the weight, but he also wants me to see a nutritionist.  I do not have the money to see a nutritionist, so I was wondering if any of you suffer from PCOS and if you have seen a nutritionist or a weight loss consultant.  Any advice you can give me would be very helpful.

I suggest do some research on your own. Go to the library and read. I don't have pcos but I have read from some of the women hear it is not any fun to have. I had a short span of time ~ 3months where I gained 30 pounds due to hormone problems now under control. I do wonder if I might have it.

STORY- I was on depo-provara for a while lost weight, got off gained 30 pounds got back on and now have lost ~10. My dr doesn't understand why but that is the truth. I would prefer to not be on any drugs but I am not willing to gain weight again at least not like that.

But try going to the library and read. I personally recommend a book called burn the fat feed the muscle. I wish you the best :)

I have PCOS as well, and have had problems with my weight.  I too go to the gym 5-6 times a week and eat very well, however I have a problem with my weight.  Just so you know, my dr is sending me to a nutritionist also (Which I am not very excited about!)  anyway, I have found a natural way of dealing with my pcos, through vitamins.  Visit www.insulitelabs.com and go to the pcos link.  I have been taking these vitamins for almost 3 months and have lost about 30pounds (not changing my diet or exercise).  It has a way of helping with the insulin resistance that is a major factor in pcos.  I have done my reasearch on pcos and have found the insulte lab's information very helpful.  let me know how things are going, I hope the best for you!
Sarah

p.s. hope the meformin works for you, it gave me horrible stomach aches and I had to be taken off of it within the first month.
