Starting my plan on Monday, who's coming with me?????????????

Monday, Monday, Monday...isn't that the day that we all say we are going to start our diets? I know I do and then by Wednesday I am usually giving up and saying "Next Monday I'll start again". Well I am so tired of the never ending rollar coaster ride. I need to be held accountable and I don't have the time or the money to join Weight Watchers or LA weightloss. Who has the money to buy pre-packaged food and who really wants to go somewhere and weigh everyday when we have perfectly good scales in our bathrooms? So I decided to give this forum a try. I thought if I could get a group of people together who all want to get healthy and lose weight, then when could do it together! I lost 30 pounds last year in 8 weeks for my wedding. The healthy way! No diet pills, no crazy work-out routines. It was very simple actually...lots of protein and veggies, fruits, gallons of water, 30-45 minutes of exercising 3-4 times per week, and making sure to eat something small 5-6 times per day. This is the key to losing weight and losing it fast. Well I have been married over a year now and after eating whatever I wanted on a daily basis, including french fries and loads of chocolate, I have packed back on the pounds. Time to get in gear again. I have the tools that helped me get in great shape and I will share them with you. Let me know if you need a "lifestyle changing buddy"...(hate the word DIET!!) LOL. Kick-off begins in this forum Sunday night. We will all get accquainted and talk about our weight and how much we want to lose and how fast we want to lose it. We can do it! We will do it! It's time for us to make a change. I'm ready, are you coming with me?

I follow the Atkins Induction plan for 2 weeks only. I don't stay on it for the long term. Week three I add in berries and nuts. Veggies are fine on Atkins though anytime, induction and long term. By week four (or once I have lost 20% of my weight), I begin following a more "well-rounded" diet. Fruits, veggies, protein, dairy, and 1 serving of whole grains per day. The Atkins plan gives you the fastest results which I why I do this for a few weeks. I like seeing dramatic weight loss fast. After I lose a good amount of pounds, then I switch to a more "realistic" way of eating. Weight watchers does work if you follow it and eat the right number of points you are allowed. The only negative about it is the slow weight loss. You could always try what I am doing and see if you could just get through a few weeks with no carbs. High protein and no sugar is the only sure way to lose weight fast. I have tried Adipex and I feel like it did more harm than good. Diet pills aren't worth the stress they put your body under. They make you nervous and shaky and on the edge. Who wants to feel like that? Especially since you still have to diet and work out the same. There is no magic pill. If so, everyone would be thin. It's all about what we eat.

As far as cleansing, here are some natural suggestions:

Fleet Enema - you can find this in any drug store. This is what doctors suggest you use before some surgeries. You just bend over stick the bottle of solution in your hiney and squeeze. Within just a few minutes you will empty your junk. Works like a charm. (Sorry to be graphic, lol).

Natural Vegetable Laxatives (Senakot or generic brand) - If the Enema grosses you out then grab some of these from the store. Take 2 before bed and be ready to be cleansed sometime during the next day. If you are really stopped up it could take longer. If you think you are super clogged then buy some stool softeners at the store (located next to the laxatives). Take 2 along with the vegetable laxatives and this will soften you up. Make sure to buy the natural vegetable ones, not the stimulant Dulcolax kind. I made the mistake of taking that one before and basically felt like I was birthing a child out of my rear. The stimulant ones give you the worst pains!!! And I spoke to my doctor about these and he said no problem to take the natural veggie ones, they don't harm you in any way.

The sure way of cleaning your entire colon, like the woman you mentioned above (40 pounds) is to go to the doctor and have your colon cleansed. I have never done this, seems like a terrible thing to me, but someone I know has. They insert something into your rectum and basically flush you out. I would much rather do the Enema or take a pill than be in that situation. LOL.

Good luck! And glad to have you on the forum. It's all about losing weight! We can do it. This is our year!!

Well, I forgot to tell you I have the strips but I never use them lol. What a waste of money. I tell myself eevryday "If you buy something you have to use it" but I tend to forget I have them. I've had them for quite some time already and no...they are not expired. I guess I'll have to use them and see but so far the symptoms I've experiences are the onces I mentioned before: change in my breath, weight loss and this last one 'funny smell in my urine stream' I started noticing recently.I have the Atkins book. I make sure I read it everyday because it gives me strength to avoid cheating.

I am not inducing anymore because I already reached my goal: 127 lbs. However I still eat low carb since only God knows how hard I've had to work to get down to 127 pounds. I now try to stay under 60 grams of carbs which is fine and you can still lose a little weight. Thank you for your comments and keep up the good work. Keep me posted.

I too need some help, I just don't think the atkins diet is for long term.  I lost 35 lbs in 2 months before but who wants to live forever without fruit and vegtables.  I do want to join this group though.  I am 5 ft and weigh 220lbs.  I just joined ww and there are great recipes.  I also started getting the b12 shot last week because my iron level is so low causing me to have no energy and a lot of headaches.  I am not going to do the Phenteremine because even thought it is a short term fix, who wants to be on meds forever?  I am interested in cleansing.  I watched a show on the discovery network last night on the science of obesity and the average overweight woman has over 40lbs of fecal matter in her system.  GROSS!  It showed a picture of an xray showing this and then explained the danger of the toxins that the waste causes.  Do any of you know the best, easiest way to do this???

I tried this plan before with great success, however, when I went "off" the plan the weight came back and more.  You can buy some test at Walmart to test your urine for ketosis.  They are inexpensive and just ask any pharmisist about them.  You hold them under your urine as you pee and then check the color.  They are used for diabetics because they measure protein in the urine.  They are recomended in the Atkins book for ketosis.  Hope this helps.

According to Atkins, your body goes into ketosis in 48 hours with no carbs. (breads, pastas, sugar, etc.) OK to eat veggies but must stay under 20 net carbs for the day. Within 48 hours of following this your body will begin to burn its own fat. There are certain levels of ketosis and the best way to monitor this is to get test strips from the health food store or online. They are called ketostix. You pee on this stick in the morning and it will change a color from white to dark purple, depending on what level of ketosis you are in. No change in color is what a normal person would have. If you are eating any carbs (other than veggies or more than 20 per day), you will never be in ketosis. The longer you go without eating carbs the higher level of ketosis your body will be in. You want your stick color to be somewhere in the middle of the colors. If it is all the way to the deep purple, you probably aren't eating the 20 grams of carbs you are supposed to while on Atkins. These strips are a great way to keep you in check to see how you're doing on the plan! I check about once a week and just love it when I see pink! Lol. That way I KNOW without a doubt that I am burning my own fat. And yes, your breath stinks big time while in ketosis. This is because of the ketones in your body. Just grab some sugarfree gum, but be sure to count the carbs in that, lol. And the strong smelling urine is due to the ketones too. It smells really strong but should be clear because you should be drinking plenty of water. And if your urine doesn't smell strong, that doesn't mean you aren't in ketosis. Just check on a strip to be certain. That's the only sure way.

I'm glad that you've already lost weight. Keep it up! I'm a strong suporter of the Atkins diet because I've had great results being on it. My skin feels different and I look better.

I have a question, though..and this question I've asked a lot of people that I know have been on this diet. You know about ketosis and the whole nine yards, right? How do you know that you've reached ketosis by just checking the smell of your urine? The symptoms I've experiences are: Change in breath (just a bit) plenty of energy and weight loss. However I know ketones are released not only in the breath but also in the urine stream. Have you experienced it? What is the exact smell of your urine when you've reached ketosis? Is it strong? I'm just curious to know because I've never noticed any changes when I go to the bathroom but everybody is different, right?!?

I was reading back and noticed in my first post I said I would start by detoxing with fruits. I meant to say protein. NOT FRUITS! Please disregard that and read my post that is super long above about what to eat. Sorry for the confusion.

And another thing. The biggest loser reality show started last Tuesday and will be on again Tuesday coming up. Even if you don't like TV or reality shows, this one is so good, especially to those wanting to lose weight. It is very motivational and you can learn a lot about weight loss and see that it IS possible to lose weight fast! The blue team is following the high protein diet and kicked the other team's butt last week! It's fun to watch and makes you want to go run somewhere, lol.

I feel your pain girl! I am so unhappy when I am overweight too. You can do this! Weight Watchers is a great plan, but my problem with it is you lose weight tooooo slow! I have tried it before and losing 1 pound a week was just not enough for me. That is when I started this plan before my wedding last year and lost weight so fast! Now once I had married I ate everything in site and gained it all back. So now I am back in the same boat again. But I do have the key to weight loss and will lose it and will hopefully keep it off. It is such a vicous cycle, which is why I thought talking to other people might help motivate me. Check out what I posted above and let me know if you have any questions! And yes you can lose the weight by Christmas, but you have to stick to it. No cheating. I know it will be hard, but that is why we are all here. When you feel like grabbing a Snickers, I will tell you..."Is it worth it?" We all know it's not. Good luck with the plan!!

Absolutely you can lose 25 pounds by December. I did it in 8 weeks for my wedding last year. But I had way to much fun cooking for my husband during our first year of marriage and gained it all back! GRRR! So I am back on the plan again. Once I get it off this time I have GOT to keep it off by eating healthy. Follow the plan that I talked about above and you can do it! The key is no cheating. You can do it!!

I am so excited that you're all here! We can do this together!! So here is the deal, I started my plan last Monday and today is Saturday and I've lost 7 pounsds!! Whoo hoo!!! Less than a week! Remember I said before that I lost 30 pounds for my wedding in about 8 weeks? Well looks like I am headed that way again. So pumped!! I guess I really do have the secret to losing weight. A few people close to me have followed this plan to and have lost weight fast. The more overweight you are the more weight you will lose in the first 2 weeks. I want to lose a total of 50 pounds, (43 more). We can do it! Here is the plan:

I follow the Atkin's diet Induction plan for the first 2 weeks.

http://www.atkins.com/articles/atkins-phases/phase-one/phase-1-induction/

I think this is the best way to lose the most weight in the shortest amount of time. Now, you have to follow it to the tee. If you cheat and eat carbs (sugar) even 1 little time you will gain weight. Sugar is the enemy for all of us, our bodies do not need it at all. We have all become so addicted to it that it is hard to give it up. Sugar is not just ice cream and chocolate. Carbohydrates when broken down turn to sugar. So when you eat french fries, white bread, potatoes, etc., although they don't taste sweet, turn to sugar in your body when digested. Sugar is the reason why so many people are overweight and unhealthy. The only way to lose weight is to give it up!

Ok so for the first 2 weeks you will be eating absolutely no sugar. Not even the natural sugar found in fruit. NONE! The reason for this strict plan of induction is to get rid of all of the sugar toxins in your body. Every time you eat a carb your body burns that first before burning any fat you have. So if you don't eat any carbs, then your body has nothing to burn except your own fat. Thus, resulting in weight loss. During these 2 weeks you will be eating tons of protein. The more protein you eat, the faster your metabolism gets, and the more weight you lose. Without any sugar, your body goes into a process called ketosis. This is when your body burns its OWN FAT for energy. And this is what we all want. This is how we lose weight. Once we stop eating sugar (carbs), it takes 48 hours for ketosis to occur. When your body is in this process you will go through sugar withdrawels. Believe it or not, you are addicted to sugar. You will probably have headaches and could feel dizzy. This is your body getting rid of the sugar toxins. When this happens, just eat more protein and drink more water and it should help. The more water you drink, the better you will feel. This helps to flush those toxins out. If you don't like water, drink crystal light made with splenda. It takes so yummy and comes in a lot of flavors.

I think the atkins website explains induction very well, so I won't go into too many of the details. Just check out the site and read up! There are a lot of recipes on there. Make sure to follow phase #1 only. The other phases won't apply to us. There is a list of acceptable foods. You must eat these foods and these foods only. If you cheat, you will gain weight.

Now just remember this is only for 2 weeks! It is strict, but it works! Most people lose 10-20 pounds during induction. Make sure to eat eat eat, protein, protein, protein. Don't count calories. Just eat protein everytime you think of it. I love those rotesserie chickens from the grocery store. They are excellent! Yummy! Making fajitas is great too, just can't have the tortillas. Grilling out steaks are great, or lobster with butter sauce. YUM! And for everyone who loves the drive thru, no problem, just ask for a double cheeseburger with no bun! And beware of ketchup...it contains sugar. Load up on the mayo and mustard though. And grab a multi-vitamin from the store to get your daily vitamins and minerals.

Let me know how it goes during the first 2 weeks. I am sleeping like a baby and have more energy than ever. It feels so good to be sugar-free!

It's Sunday night and I have eaten anything and everything today. (Since I am starting tomorrow, lol). Tomorrow I will start by detoxing with fruits, veggies, egg whites, and gallons of water. I know there are a lot of dieters on here so if you ever need encouragement please let me know! And I could use some myself. I am 5'5 and need to lose 50 pounds. I will take each pound one day at a time. Must have willpower! Pray for me. Lord knows I need it!
