Sugary Temptations!

Well...I thought this whole incident was very unique to me and I thought I will share this with you guys to test your inner strength..

As i was shopping in a mini supermarket, I saw a customer service assistant marking down the prices of all the "high fat deserts" and I thought it was a good price to buy one specially at a discount.. but as i am not a big fan of sugary deserts I kept shopping for my "greens" of the week..

Anyways to cut the story short...I saw this lady 30-35 walking upto this customer service assistant , and a picked out a desert which hasn't been marked down yet .She asked him whether it was getting reduced and he replied "In a while i will be marking them down..." and she said "that's good for me then...I will not buy it .If it was marked down i would have been tempted to buy it, specially when it is one of my favourites..."

As she continued shopping I just thought i would check the calorie contet of this particular desert and it read "800!"

This particulatr woman,in her gym outfit who I assume might be trying to lose weight or on a role to a healthier lifestyle would have bought this particular desert if it was maked down, still realising it was high calorie content .But fortunately she made a wise choice and walked away.
Her excuse not to buy was" it is not marked down...." and she made a right choice.

If you were in a similar supermarket shopping for "healthy food" and if you come acrooss a "a high calorie content sugary desert" which is marked down will you be tempted to buy it?

Will the discount lure you into change your mind to making a mistake and slip?

What will be your "excusee or motivation" that will stop you from buying this product?

What is your strategy to resist these temptations?

Well.. would like to hear your opinions and see how strong you are mentally to deal with these sugary temptaions!

I can get a snickers bar and cut it in several pieces and eat it for several days.

I may be wrong but I would rather have a couple bites of something than wait too long and binge

I think about how icky sweet it is and that it'll make a mess with the utensils and kids will make a mess out of it and it just isn't worth the hassle with cleanup ... and then I tell myself that the chocolate in the Summer is icky LOL.

My downfall is a Snickers Dark sometimes .. esp. when it stares me in the face on the checkout line.  But only certain times of the month!

I try not to bring trigger foods into the house..My problem is we have parties at the house and everyone leaves the leftovers.  I tell them they will be thrown. Oh well, I do get rid of them the next day..It is too much temptation.  Thank goodness my son will eat a salad over sweets or I would be in trouble.

What interesting posts.  Many of you have responded by listing your sugary temptations and, while there comes a day when you can have some in moderation, that usually is after there has been some major weight loss success or you've successfully changed your thought process to one of intuitive eating, whereby you are satisfied with 2-3 small bites and have the knowledge and willpower to not eat any more because your craving is satisfied.

May I respectfully suggest that you tag these foods as "trigger" foods and avoid them when you are beginning or are in the early stages of changing your eating habits.  For me, I needed to completely avoid them in the beginning.  Well into my lifestyle change, I was able to adopt an intuitive eating philosophy successfully ... but I do not keep my trigger foods at home.  I may allow myself a piece or two of Godiva chocolate, but I do not buy a box and bring it home.

Has anyone else found it beneficial to avoid their trigger foods and keep them away?  Or, how have you successfully dealt with the temptations?

If you start your children off by eating the right things  then they wont ever miss the sugary things..Cant miss what you never had.

I dont mean that to sound nasty...I just wish I would of done that with my children

First off, you need to eat 3 meals a day in order to lose weight properly.  By skipping meals your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto its fat.  Or, you end up bingeing later in the day.  If you can eat a healthy cereal or yogurt and a whole wheat piece of toast for breakfast that is a start.  For lunch eat a small portion of leftovers from the day before, may a pot of homemade soup with lots of vegetables in it, or a salad, or a wrap.  Have some low fat cottage cheese and some fruit. Try and watch the fat content in your dinners and eat complex carbs instead of the white starchy ones.  That will be a good start.  For exercising, get a good stroller for 2 and get walking.  Good luck!

well this isnt really about a certain food, but im a stay at home mom and i DONT eat very much at all. i still have trouble losing weight because of the foods i do pick to eat i suppose. We have normal dinners lol you know the meat the side veggies. and lunch time its me and my 17month old. she eats her lunch meats and cheese, or her noodles, or her fruits, and her veggies. overall healthy.what are some healthy snacks i can buy to eat for lunch for myself, and what types of excercises will best fit in my daily schedual for a mommy of two..

Since our son is no longer at home we don't make or keep any dessert items in the house to tempt us.  If I saw something I like marked down I wouldn't buy it.  However, I do occasionally get a huge sugar craving and will go and buy one chocolate bar or donut to get it out of my system.  I have tried buying bags of those little chocolate bars so that I could have one if I really feel the need but found I tended to eat the whole thing because I knew it was there.  I need it to not be here.

I will have some chocolate, or chips ( <-- my personal weakness), If I really have a craving for them for like 4-5 days. I figure it is better to give in a little than hold off and one day go nuts and have a sugar feast!!

I love chocolate bars. I got one and ate it one bite at a time over the course of weeks. You can eat anything you want the key is moteration.

If she ate the whole desert she would have had an issue but some people have will power.

Sometimes I crave a chocolate cake with old fashion butter cream icing...I LOVE LOVE LOVE...Doesnt matter what the price, I buy it...I can eat a few bites of it..than throw the rest away.   Why dont I just buy a cupcake?..NO gotta buy the quarter sheet cake..looks more tempting I guess..but it goes in the garbage anyway...

Now throw me some Maytag blue cheese in front of me and I will eat the whole slab..of course I get sick..but there again..LOVE LOVE LOVE.   All depends what I crave at that time.
