Sunday Weigh In - January 11, 2015

Well, here we are with our first weigh in for the new year... hope everyone who joined the New Year challenge is ready for this.  I wasn't...

Anyway, I didn't make the weight loss goal of losing a pound - what else is new??   I've been down this road too many times before.  One thing that's different, this time, is that while the scale didn't go down - it actually went up a pound, I've had to start wearing a belt with jeans that were actually tight, just a few weeks ago. AND not only have I had to start wearing a belt, I've had to pull that belt in two notches over the past couple of weeks.  I take that to mean that while I haven't lost weight, I've probably lost some fat and gained some muscle.

We all know that a pound is a pound, no matter what it consists of, but since muscle is denser than fat, it takes more fat to make a pound than it does muscle.  Compare rocks (muscle) and feathers (fat)... A pretty small rock can weigh a  pound, but it takes a pretty good sized clump of feathers to weigh a pound.

This is a good example of why we should take our measurements when we start a weight loss program... I should practice what I preach, huh?  LOL  I did that quite a while back and while I don't know where the sheet is that I wrote them down on, I still remember the rather large, discouraging numbers, so I'll be able to tell if I've lost inches, rather than pounds.

Anyway, I am working on diet changes - still trying to get in that 7 servings of veggies and fruit (mostly veggies and very little fruit).  I've also been trying to eliminate a lot of the bread from my diet, as I've been advised by a dietician that I should opt for an anti-inflammatory diet to help my peripheral neuropathy.  I do find the days I don't eat bread, my feet tend to be less painful. Of course, eliminating bread also eliminates calories. This is still a work in progress.

I do walk approximately 2 miles most days; some days I walk more and most days I get additional exercise along with the walking, in the form of, either house work or yard work, plus some weight lifting, yoga, etc.

So that's my story - how about the rest of you?  Have you met the goal of losing a pound?  If so, congratulations and if you care to tell us how you're doing it, we'd love to hear your tips.  If you didn't reach the goal, how can we help you reach it for next week?  Of course, I know some of you just signed on in the last couple of days, so I wouldn't expect you to have lost an entire pound, but do check in anyway....

Wishing everyone a wonderful successful week...

Remember, we all win, by losing... weight...
Smile, you're beautiful

Congratulations to both of you and welcome to our weight loss challenge... sounds like you're both doing better than I am... Keep up the good work.

Aprilettle09, you're doing great to lose 7 pounds in 3 weeks.  Yes, 1200 calories is much better for you than 2500, but be sure you don't go too low on the calories... awesome job.

akrn41...  44 yrs old and peri-menopausal can be quite a challenge. Losing 5 pounds in a month is awesome; the elliptical is excellent exercise and it's great that you're watching your food intake and making sure you eat better.

With the elliptical, you'll probably have to add some other exercise later on or increase your time on it, as your body becomes used to it and it's no longer  challenge.

I'll help you both, any way I can...

I don't know either of you, but I'd like to get to know both of you and I'm so proud of you both.  :-)

Im 44, perimenopausal and very sedentary up to a month ago.  I've been on and off diets for 10 years.  My heaviest was 200 lb. I'm now 175. I've lost 5 lb in the past month due to exercising 5 days per week on elluptical for already 30 min and paying more argentine to the quality of foods I eat.  I also pray.  A lot, for the will and help to keep making the right decisions.

I have been dieting by eating 1200 calories a day (1500 max) rather than eating 2500 calories a day and have lost 7lbs according to my scale! I'm excited, as a mother of 2 children I have struggled to lose weight so hopefully this helps me! Or maybe this could even help others! My starting weight was 180 and my goal is 120. I've been doing this and walking for about 3 weeks :)
