Well, here we are with our first weigh in for the new year... hope everyone who joined the New Year challenge is ready for this. I wasn't...
Anyway, I didn't make the weight loss goal of losing a pound - what else is new?? I've been down this road too many times before. One thing that's different, this time, is that while the scale didn't go down - it actually went up a pound, I've had to start wearing a belt with jeans that were actually tight, just a few weeks ago. AND not only have I had to start wearing a belt, I've had to pull that belt in two notches over the past couple of weeks. I take that to mean that while I haven't lost weight, I've probably lost some fat and gained some muscle.
We all know that a pound is a pound, no matter what it consists of, but since muscle is denser than fat, it takes more fat to make a pound than it does muscle. Compare rocks (muscle) and feathers (fat)... A pretty small rock can weigh a pound, but it takes a pretty good sized clump of feathers to weigh a pound.
This is a good example of why we should take our measurements when we start a weight loss program... I should practice what I preach, huh? LOL I did that quite a while back and while I don't know where the sheet is that I wrote them down on, I still remember the rather large, discouraging numbers, so I'll be able to tell if I've lost inches, rather than pounds.
Anyway, I am working on diet changes - still trying to get in that 7 servings of veggies and fruit (mostly veggies and very little fruit). I've also been trying to eliminate a lot of the bread from my diet, as I've been advised by a dietician that I should opt for an anti-inflammatory diet to help my peripheral neuropathy. I do find the days I don't eat bread, my feet tend to be less painful. Of course, eliminating bread also eliminates calories. This is still a work in progress.
I do walk approximately 2 miles most days; some days I walk more and most days I get additional exercise along with the walking, in the form of, either house work or yard work, plus some weight lifting, yoga, etc.
So that's my story - how about the rest of you? Have you met the goal of losing a pound? If so, congratulations and if you care to tell us how you're doing it, we'd love to hear your tips. If you didn't reach the goal, how can we help you reach it for next week? Of course, I know some of you just signed on in the last couple of days, so I wouldn't expect you to have lost an entire pound, but do check in anyway....
Wishing everyone a wonderful successful week...
Remember, we all win, by losing... weight...
Smile, you're beautiful
