Teen Weight Loss

hello! I'm 15 and around 150-155 lbs and 5 ft 1.5 inches. I have been overweight my entire life and my parents don't act like they are supportive of me losing weight (they tease me)  and we eat lots of fast food. I want to completely cut out fast/fried food and sweets in general. My goal is to be 115 pounds and overall happy in my body. Any tips for healthy eating and exercise (I'm in school and have no gym account) is needed!

I'm sorry to hear that your parents tease you about wanting to lose weight.  Learning to eat healthy and losing weight now are the best ways to ward of health issues down the road, as well as making you happier with yourself.

We all know that fast food isn't good for you, but when you do go to a fast food restaurant, there are some ways to limit the damage that's done... For instance, when you get a hamburger, get one with lettuce, tomato, onion, but no cheese, mayo or other sauce, then ask for a knife and fork, remove the bun and eat the meat and veggies like a salad.  My husband loves McDonald's this is what I have to do when we got there.

Instead of ordering a large fries, order a small one or better yet, order fresh apple slices; drink water or milk instead of soft drink.  While milk does have calories, it's also got protein, calcium, vitamin B-12, vitamin D and other nutrients, not just empty calories.

Be careful ordering salads at fast food restaurants, because many of them pack as many or more calories than a burger and fries.  But if you be smart about it, you can do pretty good... for instance, if you order a chicken salad, make sure you get grilled chicken vs fried or breaded chicken.

Stay away from bread as much as you can... I lost 25 lbs just by eliminating most of the bread I was eating.  I also added coconut oil, olive oil and avocados to my menu... those foods have healthy fats, that will help keep you feeling fuller longer.  By adding a tablespoon of coconut or olive oil to your meal, you can get by with much smaller portions without getting hungry.

Try to limit snacks, but when you do snack try to make it something like a small apple with peanut butter (peanut butter has healthy fat), a cheese stick (has protein that will also help keep you feeling full).

Make sure you get some protein, fiber and healthy fat with each meal/snack... all 3 will help keep you fuller.

Good sources of protein are lean meats, chicken fish, dairy, beans, eggs; excellent sources of fiber are veggies (eat lots of them, because most are almost calorie free and they're so good for you), whole grains and fruit, like apples and pears.

Make sure you get some exercise every day... doesn't have to be anything extreme.  If you aren't used to exercising, start slow; even just a daily walk and work up.

Last, but not least, keep posting, so we know how you're doing... we want to help and support you, but you have to come back in order for us to do that.
