Traded Slim Fast with protien shakes

Slim Fast was getting difficult to stay on track.  I found myself cheating on the diet.  My friend told me about the protien shake that Dr. Oz uses.  There are a few recipes on his website.  Right now I am using the Ultimate Breakfast Smoothie.  It tastes awesome and it actually keeps me full for over 6 hours.  I have zero cravings for food and sweets.  I've cut back my dinner portion.  I add the flax seeds and I'm going to buy chia seeds and wheat germ the next time I'm at the store.

I'm hearing this is safe for a meal replacement and it's actually better for you then slim fast.  I use whey protien with 1/2 strawberries, 1/2 banana, skim milk and I will be adding the seeds and germ when I get them.  It's been three days now and I can already tell a big difference.  I saw the green drink on his website and I will try that too, as it has vegetables in it.  I'm so excited with this new healthy way. :o)

I never measured myself before I started this diet.  I'm actually going by how my clothes fit me, especially my jeans!  If I buy a scale, I will become obsessive and weigh myself everyday and if I'm not losing the weight fast enough, I will starv myself.  I do know I have lost a noticible amount of weight.  Some of the clothes that I couldn't get on or buttoned, I can can on and buttoned now.  I even notice weight loss in the theighs.

The best part about these shakes is I have absoultely no food cravings!  I'm going to quit the shakes soon to food and it should be easy for the transition.  I have cut all the extra sugar, white bread and noodles, and chips out.  I've even cut out the sweetners out and switch to water as my main source of liquid.  I have not cheated once and I don't need those foods again.  This was my biggest goal, to cut the junk and not crave it.  I haven't been attempted to even eat any of the cookies that hubby has made for the kids.  Peanut butter and chocolate chip.  The best cookies ever, well they smelled the best anyways. :o)

I hope I can continue the bike, I really have to watch it!  I had one day where I over did the bike and went in unbearable pain.  I can go on it for a few minutes at a time and a couple times in a day.  It's sooooo hard emotionally not being able to do any cardio or any type of exercise.

I'm looking for a surgeon to get the other discs fixed, so we will see.  The surgeons are holding off saying I'm too young to have a 3 level fusion, I guess they don't understand what it's like to go through this pain every second of my life.  Not being able to physically do anything is awful!!!

I'm happy to hear that you are doing so well.  I still fear that these shakes are not really the way to go, except for a quick meal now and then, when I don't have time to fix anything else.

I've found that having my largest meal of the day for lunch works best - that way, I'm not coming home from work, trying to get household chores, etc done, then eating a large meal just before bed........

I agree that the omega 3's in flax seed, fish oil, etc are good for you - keep in mind that you can add the flax seeds to your oatmeal or other cereal; to your salads, etc; they don't have to be confined to these shakes....

Do you know how much weight (or inches) you've lost from this diet?  I might also suggest that the fact that you are exercising would have some to do with the weight loss.

At any rate -- best of luck to you......

I have to say that this is going extremely well.  I have absolutely no food cravings.  My 2 snacks for the day consist a serving of raw vegatables only.  I've been on this diet for two weeks and I look foward to these shakes everyday.  I do notice a difference in my weight.  I have started to bike on a stationary bike because walking is causing too much pain right now.  I am able to bike every other day right now.

I feel fantastic!  I keep forgetting how much junk food weighs you down and makes you feel crappy.  I've added more water in my diet and I will be going down to one shake here in the next few weeks.  I do have my diet planned out now for lunch and dinners.  My dinner really hasn't changed, I've just cut way back on the portions.  My lunch will consist of 3oz of lean meat with a spinich salad or low fat cottage cheese with fruit and veggies.

I'm going to keep the flaxseed, fish oil, and chia seeds in my diet when I quit the shakes.  They have a lot of omega 3's and other wonderful vitamins.

Yeah, I will have one shake for breakfast.  If I don't have a shake for breakfast, I will have a bowl of oatmeal or two egg whites with jelly toast.  I will have to watch my intake for lunch.  The good thing is that we will plant our garden in the next couple of months, so I will have fresh vegetables for most of the summer.

I will have to plan out everything ahead of time.  I think these shakes will really help me get back on track.  I haven't had any junk food now for almost a week, not a single bite.  Yay me!  I want to be as healthy as possible.  Dr. Oz has a green drink too that I want to try.  I would like to get all the ingredients and drink this for a snack here and there.  He mixes this in a blender.

2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Have you made a plan for when you stop these shakes?  Usually when one goes off this type diet, they gain back all the lost weight, often plus some.

It would be much healthier and probably less expensive to implement a good solid balanced diet - lean meats, low/no fat dairy, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc.

Yes, I will get the additional ingredients this weekend for sure.  I do take vitamins everyday at breakfast time.  This is the eaisest way to diet so far and it helps me feel full.  I do know it can not be taken long term.  I do have fresh vegetables at hand for snacking too.  My husband is drinking the protien shakes too, but as a snack after his workouts. :o)

This might be "okay" for a short time, but you need to add "food" to your diet as well.  Neither these shakes, nor slimfast are something that you can maintain indefinitely and I don't think they are even all that healthy for you, especially if you aren't doing them the way the recipe says - with the seeds and wheat germ -- you aren't getting the nutrients you need.  These shakes are something that you might rely on once in a  while for a "quick, on the go meal", but not for long term use. Maybe it's not so good that you are cutting back on your dinner portions - you might need that in the long run.

Best of luck to you.........let us know how you get along.

Right now I'm replacing two meals with this diet.  Once I'm at my desired weight/size, I'll go to one shake a day.  I think the shake tastes so good and has a yummy, creamy after taste too.
