UPSET AND WORRIED

I'm so upset, on friday i was rushed to hospital from the gym with a suspected heart attack, i was told my heart trace was fine, then today i had to do a treadmill test and was told that i had had a mild heart attack and now i have to have a angiogram, being needle phobic this is terrifying me,
I have been told i cant go back to the gym i was doing so well and am worried that without exercise the weight might go back on, WHAT CAN I DO

The name of the sign is Levine's Sign - if you google it you will find some good information about HA signs.

Got to do it made an excellent observation about clutching the chest and holding the arm.

The chest gesture is one that all doctors should be taught - it is universally recognized when a patient is talking about chest pain, IF  they also make hand gestures that mimic clutching their chest, it  probably is a very real heart problem.  There is even a name for this gesture  but right now I can't find it.

be well,
Lulu

Hi Elaine,
I had an angiogram after my HA and it was not too bad.  The worst part was having to be still on my back for several hours afterward to allow the blood to clot sufficiently where they go in..... be sure to use the restroom right before the procedure because you might be down for up to eight hours, depending on the type of closure they use.  I know the NHS hospitals are doing things a bit differently than our US hospitals.

I had no blockages.  If I were you I would discuss all the possible outcomes with them BEFORE the angio so you know what you might be able to expect.

Have confidence in your doctors and stay positive.

my heartfelt best,
Lulu

Elaine I just saw your post and wanted to jump in. I don't have any advice to add because you've already gotten a lot of great tips. I just wanted to say I understand how anxious the waiting must be, but you'll find out everything you need to know soon. Don't worry about exercise or weight loss right now. You'll be able to resume it in moderation eventually. Just focus on eating right and alleviating your stress as much as possible. I know a lot of people with heart problems (a few in my family) and there absolutely is a way to come out on the other side of this. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this now and I hope your recovery will be a speedy one.

Sending hugs and positive healing vibes your way!

Hi there.  I'm so sorry to hear about your heart attack.  I can't add any tips/advice to what everyone else has already given.  Just follow doctor's orders - the gym, exercise, etc will be there waiting for you when you are strong enough to get back into it.

For now, just do what needs to be done and know that we are all here thinking of you and praying for you.  Get Well soon.

Twio more things .. Miss Elaine.  Absolutely ANY signs/symptoms from this point forward, IMMEDIATELY call emergency services.

Second .. know an angiogram sounds scarey, especially since you are afraid of needles.  However, I worked for cardiac surgeons and this is routine business for them.  Try not to stress, just know you are doing what needs to be done.  Grab a book or a good movie and relax.

(((Hugs))) for courage ..

Hi Elaine

So sorry to hear this. I can't add to the advice everyone else has given. I don't want to make a mockery of how you are feeling but just think - you can get Steve to do all the hoovering now!
But seriously, sounds like you have a great man there and I'm sure he will be everything you need to see you through this.

Elaine -  Im here for you - I know it is a shock- though I am not surprised after seeing you on Friday having the attack  and watching the arm pain an how you held your chest.... but be glad you have had an early warning and not a full blown attack that could have caused irreversable damage... listen to the drs, lsiten to your body, be sensible, do what they say and get through each day one at a time...Im here if and when you need me :)

Limbo is a horrible place to be- it wont be long before you have all the facts and know what you are facing... the posters above have given you great advice and you will find lots of online support here :)

Eat sensible-  dont see this as a reason to feel defeated-  exercise will come back later on doctors orders -  keep off the food you wanted today lol x

I just found your post and had to jump in here, having had a heart attack in January 2008.

There really is no such thing as a minor HA - when you think about it that is such a stupid label from the doctors.  Don't take this as minor because it isn't . Work with your doctors and follow their lead for your diet and exercise.  Most of all work on getting yourself emotional strong before you worry about the physical parts.

Six months after my event I was cleared to exercise and do everything I had been doing previously.  But I sure wasn't able to do it on my own.  It took the support of some very amazing women who had all also been through Heart Disease in one form or another to get me through the healing and redefining who I am.  HD will force you to do that - you now have to develop a new normal for you.

Heart disease hits all ages of women - I was 53 at the time, but am good friends with a 26 y/o who has had 2 open heart surgeries already.  I also know women in their 30's and 40's who have been smacked by this disease.

I am so sorry you have joined our ranks, but you can survive this and come out stronger on the other side.

My best,
Lulu

Lucinda has given you good advice:  LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTORS!  They will be giving you a heart-healthy diet.  Once you can resume LIGHT exercise, walking will probably be first on the list - but NOT YET!!!  Take it one day at a time, and just relax.  WE'LL BE HERE!

I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU!  Keep us posted, okay?

I'm so sorry this has happened.

Dearest Ms. Elaine....I am so sorry that this has come about.  In answering "What Can I Do?"....the very best piece of advice that I can offer is this:  Work with your doctors to manage your heart health first and then resume your weight loss program with their advice and guidance.  Getting youself healthy should be priority #1 right now.

Please see Barb's post http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/762444 so that you will understand that you are not alone.  Although no one has posted with your exact health issues, rather their own unique medical conditions, you should know that for many reasons that are many here who will understand and support you in this journey.  Health conditions do not make weight loss impossible, just more difficult, but with the assistance and guidance of our doctors and other medical providers, we can definitely make it through once we have received medical clearance.

Many virtual *Hugs* to you today Ms. Elaine.
