Personally, with my limited experience, I would say you should have someone show you the proper way to lift, to reduce the chance of muscle or joint injury. A professional can also help optimize your workouts by working effectively.
-it is good to have a rest day between your workouts, I can tell you that much.
See if you can find a good personal trainer and pay for a couple sessions. It will be well worth your time.
