Weight loss and malnutrition

by quillswriting, Jun 22, 2007 07:34PM
I lost loads of weight back in Apr/May and since I have had worsening tachycardia, neuro symptoms, bluish fingernails with red bands.  My husband had an eating disorder when he was a teenager and he said that most of my problems could be down to the fact that I lost the weight.

I lost about a stone and a half and I was underweight anyway.  I am now showing signs of dehydration and I am having lots of nerve problems, possibly autonomic neuropathy.

I lost most of my body fat, my veins became so aparent under my skin, I am terribly thin.  I lost all the weight because I had anxiety and had trouble swallowing food, I then found it hard to eat two mouthfuls without feeling full.  I started eating properly again in late May but I am still very thin, not put any weight on.  My thyroid is normal.

My bones crack a lot, my muscles ache, I have a high Red Cell Width suggesting anaemia though my red cell count was normal.

Can weight loss and malnutrition cause tachycardia?  Can it cause dehydration?

YES. I would recommend seeing your dr.

I have seen my doctor several times and he just puts my symptoms down to anxiety.  I have seen more than one doctor and they have all said the same.

Did they give you anything for the anxiety? I would think it is more than that if it affecting you swallowing food. I am sorry for what you are going through. I would ask your dr for suggestions. Maybe start doing yoga. I heard it helps.

I, too, lost a lot of weight, about 50 lb., most of being muscle & body fat. I have trouble swallowing food all of the time (paralyzed tongue & esophagus), so eating is a chore. However, for some reason I, too, was just suddenly stuffed after a few bites and the weight just fell off.

My blood count is/was off, I took some vitamins & am basically OK now but still weigh the same. I might gain a pound or two but lose them again & have stopped losing weight. My veins popped out as well, some of my hair fell out & continues to do so. Thank heavens I have very thick hair.

I started an anti-depressant because all of this was very scary-what bothers me most is the weird things that are happening to my skin. I'm basically OK emotionally now & see a neurologist every 6 months as I was diagnosed w/autonomic neuropathy & a couple of other types. I'm just grateful I'm not in worse shape than I am!

I do hope you've taken live4fitness' advice and have seen a doctor by now who answered your questions. Good luck to you.
