Thanks Peek. I am trying very hard to watch the sodium but good grief it's everywhere.  I too think exercise will prove to be a challenge for me.  Believe it or not I was a gym rat less than two years ago but got frightened with an increase in palpatations.  Despite the doctor's assurances I have found it tough to get back to exercising.  I keep thinking if I could even just lose 10 pounds I would feel better and have more energy.  Thursday is my next weigh in. I'll let you know.  My husband is working from home this week and has confiscated my computer so I won't be on much.  Take care.

Exercise is my personal battle.  I despise it.
I force myself to walk the dogs, but that's about it for exercise.  Probably a 30 min walk every other day (poor dogs!)

My best advice about the scale is to either NOT get one, or get one that you use once only, midweek.  The people who get the most discouraged are those who weigh every day.  If they gain, they're despondent and may overeat, thinking "what's the use"? Or worse, severely restrict their eating.
If they lose, they may loosen up too much, thinking they can afford to eat a bit more.

I have a scale, and use it about 2 days before my weekly WW weigh in, just to get an idea how things are going.

Its very possible to retain a lot of fluid from day to day.  I have gained 3 or 4 pounds overnight after a salty meal.  Its extremely discouraging.

My best advice is to just look at the long term picture, and don't live or die by your weight.  WW will help you learn a pattern of healthy eating, focusing on lowfat or FF dairy, at least 5 servings a day of fruits and veggies, proper water intake, and listening to your body's needs instead of eating out of boredom or depression.

Thanks.  When I read the materials I figured that until I get used to portions and points values it's best for me to start with the flex plan and then move on to the core.  I hear good things about both plans.  There were several people at my first meeting and all had a loss (the leader kept the weight confidential but those who lost felt proud and let everyone know).  Now my big fear is that I won't lose or (gasp!) even gain when I go back for my second weigh in.  Perhaps I should invest in a good scale for home.  I have been very diligent so far with sticking to the plan.

Anyway, do you exercise and if you don't mind me asking if you do how much time do you spend doing it?

I started with the Flex program, but now I really enjoy being on Core.

Its basically the same program, when push comes to shove.  Only you don't count the Core food items, only those things that are not Core.

You still get the 35 a week to play with.

As an example, the menu I posted above is totally Core.  I would not have used any of my 35 weekly points on any of it.  I just have to be careful to eat to satisfaction.  And even that isn't hard as people make it out to be.  I just start with a "Flex" size serving, and when I'm done, I wait a few minutes to see if I'm truly still hungry.  If I am, I just eat a bit more.

Anyway, congrats to you for starting!  Let me know if you have any questions.

Good for you.  I joined Weight Watchers last Thursday and even though I'm hungry I'm not starving.  I am doing the flex plan.  I've never been a breakfast eater but now I find that it is my biggest (most points) meal.  Oatmeal or an egg white omelet really keep me satisfied the longest.  Also, one of my biggest stumbling blocks was the whole food journal thing but now I find that I snack less when I am tracking points.  I was an all day grazer and now that I have to keep track of points I find it too much of a hassle to snack constantly.  I'm pretty committed to making this work.

Yep--just got back from a weigh in today.  Down another 1.8#.

This hardly feels like a diet at all!  I'm really stoked each day to come up with nutritious and creative meals.
