stomach removal

by rodney2, Oct 09, 2009 04:54PM
Iam considering a procedure called duodenal switch. Iam 6 foot 400lbs male. My doctor said all my excess weight is in my stomach. He said this will be a difficult operation. He said he made stop after the first part. What is your opinion and will a small stomach on abig frame make me look odd. Thank you.

I'm not familiar with a duodenal switch -- but I have known some who have had surgeries to get rid of excess weight.  I know that once part of the stomach is removed/rerouted, etc, the stomach "pouch" is much smaller  and if you don't eat accordingly, you will only stretch it back to original size......

I had a co-worker whose wife had some kind of stomach surgery -- the idea being to make the stomach smaller so it wouldn't hold so much; therefore she would get full on much less food ---- great concept, except that she kept eating more and more and in a short time had stretched her stomach back to original size --- no gain there (except in weight)........

I'm not sure if the surgery you are referring to is similar to that or not, but that would be a good question to ask you doctor........
