I often grab an apple, peanuts, etc if I'm really hungry -- but yes, we must make sure that hunger is the real reason we are eating; it easy to sit in front of the TV and mindlessly eat an entire bag of chips - not because we were hungry or even really "wanted" them, but simply because they were there and we needed something "to do"........

No, we aren't required to reveal our ages and in many instances, age really doesn't matter, but by the same token - the older we get, the less we might exercise, or for various reasons our metabolism slows down, which leaves us needing less calories.

BTW - don't mind if you call me old; I worked hard to live this long and am in better shape than many people I work with, who are 20-30 yrs younger than me.

I agree that calories are calories; however, by eating the proper type of calories, you can fill up and stay fuller longer.

Whereas sugar (whether it be from refined sugar or fructose - fruit sugar) raises your blood sugar almost immediately, which causes it to "spike", then drop down very quickly, which leaves you hungry and craving more sugar; this doesn't happen with protein or fiber.  I don't advocate "excess" protein or fiber, but I do advocate "higher" protein and fiber, simply for the fact that it takes the body longer to break them  down, so your blood sugar stays steadier and you don't have the ups and downs like you get with sweets.

I don't believe that one has to be hungry to lose weight.  Choose complex carbohydrates (veggies, whole grains, etc) over the simple carbohydrates (sugar, refined flour products, etc) and you won't find it as difficult, again because it takes the body longer to break them down, so you don't get the blood sugar peaks and valleys.

Sorry, but I also don't advocate the use of stimulants for weight loss.  A caffeine addiction can be broken.  Try switching to 1/2 decaf for your coffee, then gradually ween off it altogether.

Ephedrine has some very horrible side effects, including  hypertension (elevated blood pressure), palpitations (rapid heart rate), neurophathy (nerve damage), myopathy (muscle injury), psychosis, stroke, memory loss, heart rate irregularities, insomnia, nervousness, tremors, seizures, heart attacks, and even death.  Those who already have any of these issues are certainly asking for trouble, and those who don't have any health issues can easily develop them.

Weight loss is best achieved by eating the right kind of calories, in the proper amounts, and getting an adequate amount of exercise.

Holy crap, half truths Batman!  Both of those people were right!  Well, they were half right anyway.

Soda and fruit just do not contain sugar, Sucrose, which over the millenia the human body has learned to metabolize.  BOTH fruit juice and soda contains Fructose which has to be converted straight to fat feeding energy before straight to fat.  Which unless your Micheal Phelps, your not going to burn a couple of sodas before it turns into FAT FIRST!

Eat a larger breakfast and lunch before you even decide to eat a larger dinner, yes that it true and just about everything else in dieting is true, like about the calories.

Excess protein calories only counts if your active Akins diet and your body is in a state of ketosis (really hard on the kidneys BTW!).  Otherwise, calories are calories even if they might be carbs or protein based.

Excess water does keep the hunger pains at bay  but if your addicted to caffeine (as I am then Ephedrine ordered online which usually has caffeine included combined with Aspirin)  will keep your physical addiction  at bay.  It's never easy learning to be hungry rather stuffed so full you cant eat anymore all the time.

Look at my weight loss for proof that I know what I am talking about.

You can't "spot reduce"; therefore, any weight loss  will be an "overall" loss.

Yes, sodas have a lot of sugar; however, so does fruit juice - yes, it's "natural", but still sugar and if not used quickly, will turn to fat. Whole fruit is much better for you than juice, because you get the added benefit of the fiber.  Try drinking water instead of sodas or juice.

I do agree that keeping busy will help keep those cravings at bay; but when they do hit, try eating just one small piece of candy (like a hershey kiss), instead of an entire candy bar; or a small pack of peanuts, instead of an entire bag of chips.  If you can satisfy your craving with a small amount, or even substitute (apple for candy, etc), you will be better off than depriving yourself completely.  In my experience, total deprivation almost always leads to a binge.

I also agree with eating breakfast -- make it high protein and fiber so it sticks with you for a while and keeps your blood sugar stable.  I find that by making breakfast my largest meal of the day and lunch the next largest and eat lightly in the evening, I do much better.

In regards to exercise - I understand that taekwondo is good for "all around" exercise, but make sure you get a mix of aerobic/cardio and strength training in order to lose weight.  You might also consider trying yoga - great for stretching/lengthening/strengthneing the muscles, as well as relaxing your whole body.

I would try juices.  It's not the healthiest alternative but it's a start.  I cut pop out of most of my diet this summer and without even realizing it I lost 20 pounds.  Being addicted to pop/salty foods means if you can cut those out you can loose a lot of weight without really even doing anything.  Get honey mustard instead of ranch at subway, drink juice instead of pop, keep so busy you don't even know you're hungry, EAT BREAKFAST!

That's just what I did.  I missed quite a few days and still lost the 20 pounds.  The key for me was the pop and eating smaller meals.  If you really dive into a project (for me it was an intensive language class) it's amazing how long you can go without eating :).  Good luck!
