unable to exercise right now.

by blksapphire, Feb 15, 2009 10:53AM
I haven't been able to much of any exercises lately.  My endo doctor took me off all my diuretics to have a renin and aldersterone test.  I feel and look like the michelin tire man or the pillsbury dough boy.   I can barely walk lately.  Do you know of any other diuretic other than pill form to help me shed this water.  I want to do my execercises but its too much right now.  I can barely walk through my house without wheezing.

Thanks

Terri

See if this helps:  http://www.targetwoman.com/articles/natural-diuretic.html

Natural diuretic

More and more people are resorting to natural foods and herbs that exhibit diuretic properties instead of diuretic pills. Moderation is the watchword even in the case of natural diuretics. Natural diuretics can aid in removal of excess fluids from the body and aid in treating of sciatica, kidney stone, lymphatic swelling, PMS, gonorrhea, liver disorders and high blood pressure.

Green tea is a natural diuretic food that has been in use for centuries in China.

Consumption of cranberry juice can aid in removal of excess fluid retention.

Apple cider vinegar exhibits natural diuretic properties and in addition maintains the potassium levels. It can be added to the salad dressing.

Dandelion is often used as a natural diuretic.

Nettle has natural diuretic properties that facilitate good cleansing.

Dandelion leaf tea aids in detoxification and has a beneficial effect on those suffering from cystitis and urinary tract infections.

Fennel has carminative and diuretic properties and is frequently used in seasoning food.

Thank you, thank you, and than you.

I have been drinking the green tea and the cranberry juice.  Always have.  Some how they seem to be adding to the misery...

I will try some of the others and I won't stop the green tea and cranberry juice.

I just feel if I breathe wrong, i'm gonna pop.

You would think my endocrinologist would have given me alternatives since he took me off the meds to do the two tests..

He wanted me off the duiretics for at least a month prior to the renin and aldersterone tests.   My primary thought the two tests were good choices since I was having problems with my potassium and low blood sugar in addition to being hypo thyroid, but not too happy about my being off the diuretics.

Thanks again,

Terri

If I'm not mistaken, you are a thyroid patient, right?  If your endo wanted you off diuretics for a certain amount of time, you need to take his/her advice.  I know you are miserable, but I would not advise taking anything because all of the alternative diuretics could give your blood work false results.

You need to eliminate or minimize salt from your diet and try drinking just plain water.  In addition, even though you feel as if you are going to burst, try doing some simple exercises - leg/arm lifts, slow walking, etc.

I, too, am a thyroid patient and although I have a lot to learn, I do know that there a lot of things that we need to do differently from some other people.
