dietary management post gastric bypass

family member had bypass in october; presently experiencing irritability and lethargy between meals, and pain and pallor during meals. often forgets to eat. are frequent small meals advised to mitigate ill-effects? what is recommended long term course of action? DM 2 seems to be well-managed, but this is not definite. please advise. many thanks
