Checking for ketones to see if burning pure fat.

by V52, Apr 11, 2007 12:00AM
Hi all,

I think if you are burning fat stores for fuel, your body excretes more ketones.  Wouldn't checking for ketones in your urine verify if you are burning fat stores with hCG shots?  Also, I believe almost any low cal diet will cause this, but I am not sure.  Diabetics need to be concerned about the amount of ketones because this can cause them to go into acidosis, not a good thing.  Just throwing this out there to maybe help.  I know on Atkins, he recommends you check your urine ketone output to see if you are eating too many carbs/to see if you are burning the fat only.  Thought this might work for hCG but am not sure.  I bought the ketone strips at WalMart, I think.  Can someone verify this?

ketones are produced by the body when it has no more carbs to burn for fuel.. there is no reason to check for ketones because they occur when your body breaks down lean muscle mass for fuel.. if your body goes into ketosis that means that it is shutting itself down.. the body will only create ketones if it doesnt have the energy it needs to preform needed brain functions.. this is basic nutrition knowledge.. fyi =-)
